To obtain a replacement, call 1 800 222–3111.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONSEspecially About Cordless TelephonesPrivacy: The same features that make a cordless phoneconvenient create some limitations. Telephone calls aretransmitted between the base and the handset by radiowaves, so there is a possibility that your cordless phoneconversations could be intercepted by radio receivingequipment within range of the cordless handset. For thisreason, you should not think of cordless phone conversations as being as private as those on cordedphones.Electrical Power: The base unit of this cordless telephonemust be connected to a working electrical outlet. The electrical outlet should not be controlled by a wall switch.Calls cannot be made from the handset if the baseunit is unplugged or switched off, or if the electricalpower is interrupted.Potential TV Interference: Some cordless telephonesoperate at frequencies that may cause interference to TVsand VCRs. To minimize or prevent such interference, donot place the base unit of the cordless telephone near or ontop of a TV or VCR. If interference is experienced, movingthe cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCRwill often reduce or eliminate the interference. Exercise care in handling batteries in order not toshort the battery with conducting material such as rings,bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor may overheatand cause harm. Observe proper polarity between thebattery and the battery charger.Nickel-Cadmium Rechargeable Batteries: Must be recycled or disposed of properly. Do not dispose of inhousehold garbage. Do not burn or puncture. Like otherbatteries of this type, if burned or punctured, they couldrelease caustic material which could cause injury.The RBRC™Seal means that the manufacturer is voluntarily participating in an industry program to collect and recycle Nickel-Cadmium rechargeable batteries when taken out of service within the United States. Thesebatteries may be taken to a participating local retailer ofreplacement batteries or recycling center. Or you may call 1 800 8BATTERY for locations accepting spent Nickel-Cadmium Batteries.Nickel-Metal Hydride Rechargeable Batteries: Dispose ofthese batteries in a safe manner. Do not burn or puncture.Like other batteries of this type, if burned or punctured, theycould release caustic material which could cause injury.Precautions for Users ofImplanted Cardiac PacemakersCardiac Pacemakers (applies only to 900 MHz DigitalCordless Telephones): Wireless Technology Research, LLC (WTR), an independentresearch entity, led a multidisciplinary evaluation of theinterference between portable wireless telephones andimplanted cardiac pacemakers. Supported by the U.S.Food and Drug Administration, WTR had recommended tophysicians that:PACEMAKER PATIENTS• Should keep wireless phones at least six inches from thepacemaker• Should NOT place wireless phones directly over thepacemaker, such as in a breast pocket, when it is turned ON• Should use the wireless phone at the ear opposite thepacemakerWTR’s evaluation did not identify any risk to bystanders withpacemakers from other persons using wireless phones.Pt1_1yr_Eng_China_3ATT 7/18/01 10:25 AM Page 3
4Especially About Telephone Answering SystemsTwo-Way Recording: This unit does not sound warningbeeps to let the other party know that the call is beingrecorded. To ensure that you are in compliance with anyfederal or state regulations regarding recording a telephonecall, you should start the recording process and then informthe other party that you are recording the call.FCC Registration and Repair InformationThis telephone product has been registered with theFederal Communications Commission (FCC) in accordancewith Part 68 of its rules. The FCC requires us to tell you thefollowing information.1 Connection and use with the nationwide telephone networkAn FCC compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. This product is designedto be connected to the telephone network or premiseswiring using a compatible modular jack which is Part 68 compliant; for a single line use jack RJ11, fortwo lines use RJ14. See Installation instructions in theuser’s manual.This equipment may not be used with CoinTelephone Lines or with Party Lines.2 Notification to the telephone companyUpon request of your local telephone company, you are required to provide them with the following information:aThe “line” to which you will connect the telephoneequipment (that is, your phone number), andbThe telephone equipment’s FCC registration numberand ringer equivalence number (REN). These numbersare on the back or bottom of your telephone equipment.The REN is useful to determine how many devicesyou may connect to your telephone line and stillhave them ring when you are called. The telephonecompany is required to notify you before interruptingservice. If advance notice is not practical, you will benotified as soon as possible.You will be given the opportunity to correct the problemand the telephone company is required to inform you ofyour right to file a complaint with the FCC.Your telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operation, or procedures thatcould affect the proper functioning of this product. Thetelephone company is required to notify you if suchchanges are planned.5 This telephone is compatible with inductively coupled hearing aids. 7Limited Warranty1WHAT DOES THIS LIMITED WARRANTY COVER?The manufacturer of this AT&T-branded product,Advanced American Telephones (“AAT”), warrants to theholder of a valid proof of purchase (“CONSUMER” or“YOU”) that the product and all accessories provided byAAT in the sales package (“PRODUCT”) are free frommaterial defects in material and workmanship, pursuant tothe following terms and conditions, when installed andused normally and in accordance with operationinstructions. This limited warranty extends only to theCONSUMER for PRODUCTS purchased and used in theUnited States of America.2WHAT WILL AAT DO IF THE PRODUCT IS NOT FREEFROM MATERIAL DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIPDURING THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD (“MATERIALLYDEFECTIVE PRODUCT”)?During the limited warranty period, AAT’s authorizedservice representative will repair or replace, at AAT’soption, without charge, a MATERIALLY DEFECTIVEPRODUCT. If AAT repairs this PRODUCT, AAT may usenew or refurbished replacement parts. If AAT chooses toreplace this PRODUCT, AAT may replace it with a new orrefurbished PRODUCT of the same or similar design. AATwill return repaired or replacement PRODUCTS to YOUin working condition. AAT will retain defective parts, modules, or equipment.Repair or replacement of PRODUCT, at AAT’s option, isyour exclusive remedy. YOU should expect the repair orreplacement to take approximately 30 days.3HOW LONG IS THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD?The limited warranty period for the PRODUCT extendsfor ONE (1) YEAR from the date of purchase. 8b PRODUCT that has been damaged due to repair,alteration, or modification by anyone other than anauthorized service representative of AAT; orc PRODUCT to the extent that the problem experiencedis caused by signal conditions, network reliability orcable or antenna systems; ord PRODUCT to the extent that the problem is caused byuse with non-AAT accessories; ore PRODUCT whose warranty/quality stickers, productserial number plates or electronic serial numbers havebeen removed, altered or rendered illegible; orf PRODUCT purchased, used, serviced, or shipped forrepair from outside the United States, or used forcommercial or institutional purposes (including but notlimited to PRODUCTS used for rental purposes); org PRODUCT returned without valid proof of purchase(see 6 below); orhcharges for installation or setup, adjustment ofcustomer controls, and installation or repair of systemsoutside the unit.5HOW DO YOU GET WARRANTY SERVICE?To obtain warranty service in the United States of America,call 1 800 222–3111 for instructions regarding where toreturn the PRODUCT. Before calling for service, pleasecheck the user’s manual. A check of the PRODUCTcontrols and features may save YOU a service call.Except as provided by applicable law, YOU assume therisk of loss or damage during transit and transportation andare responsible for delivery or handling charges incurredin the transport of PRODUCT(S) to the service location.AAT will return repaired or replaced PRODUCT underthis limited warranty to YOU, transportation, delivery orhandling charges prepaid. AAT assumes no risk fordamage or loss of the PRODUCT in transit.If the PRODUCT failure is not covered by this limitedwarranty, or proof of purchase does not meet the terms ofthis limited warranty, AAT will notify YOU and willrequest that YOU authorize the cost of repair prior to anyfurther repair activity. 9along with a description of the malfunction ordifficulty;binclude “valid proof of purchase” (sales receipt)identifying the PRODUCT purchased (PRODUCTmodel) and the date of purchase or receipt (keep acopy for your records); andcprovide your name, complete and correct mailingaddress, and telephone number. 7OTHER LIMITATIONSThis warranty is the complete and exclusive agreementbetween YOU and AAT. It supersedes all other written ororal communications related to this PRODUCT. AATprovides no other warranties for this PRODUCT. Thewarranty exclusively describes all of AAT’s responsibilitiesregarding the PRODUCT. There are no other expresswarranties. No one is authorized to make modifications tothis limited warranty and YOU should not rely on anysuch modification. State Law Rights: This warranty gives YOU specific legalrights, and YOU may also have other rights which varyfrom state to state. Limitations:Implied warranties, including those of fitness for aparticular purpose and merchantability (anunwritten warranty that the PRODUCT is fit forordinary use) are limited to one year from date ofpurchase. Some states do not allow limitations on how long animplied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may notapply to YOU. In no event shall AAT be liable for any indirect,special, incidental, consequential, or similardamages (including, but not limited to lost profits orrevenue, inability to use the PRODUCT, or otherassociated equipment, the cost of substituteequipment, and claims by third parties) resultingfrom the use of this PRODUCT.
