Take care when using your phone if:• you have a pacemaker fitted. Always check with themanufacturers recommendations. In  general, alwayskeep your phone at least 20cm (6in) away from thepacemaker, never keep the phone in a breast pocket.Always use the ear opposite to where the pacemakeris fitted.• you use a hearing aid, as interference may result.Consult with the manufacturer for possible alternatives.• you use other personal medical devices. Neverobstruct the airbag with any object, including yourmobile phone.Emergency callsThis phone allows you to communicate using radio waves.Because of this, connection cannot be guaranteed at alltimes. Installing and charging the batteryTo install the battery:1 Insert the base of thebattery pack into theslot in the back ofthe phone,2 Press thetop ofthebatteryto thephone sothat it locksinto place.To remove the battery:• Press and hold the locking latch at the top of thebattery. Note: The first initial charge of the battery should be anovernight charge or at least a minimum of six hours.To disconnect the charger lead:1 Remove the charger body from the power outlet,2 Grip the charger plug and BEND IT UP OR DOWN sothat it snaps away from the base of the phone.Important: Never pull directly on thecable, hold only the connector.Important: Never pulldirectly on the chargerTo charge the battery:Note: Your phone can be switched on or off whilecharging.1 Plug the lead from the charger to the bottom of thephone – the connector will fit only one way (align thesmall notch on the connector with the front face ofthe phone),2  Plug the charger body into a suitable poweroutlet. Switching on and offTo switch your phone on and off:ON Press and release (.OFF Press and hold ( for 3 seconds.When your phone switches on for the very first time, youmay be prompted for a PIN code:• To enter a valid PIN code – see Entering a PIN codeEntering a PIN codeYour smart(SIM) card may be protected by a PIN (PersonalIdentification Number), if so you will be prompted to enterit when you first switch on. The documentation from yourservice provider should indicate the current PIN code.To enter your PIN:1 Enter the PIN code using the numeric keys – thedisplay will show ‘#’ symbols instead of the numbersto avoid your code being seen by onlookers,2c or press ) to confirm the number. After a shortdelay, your phone will join the network.If you enter the wrong PIN code:•a to clear any error. If you enter the wrong codethree times in succession, your smart (SIM) cardbecomes disabled. •Key tones – sets the sound played when a key ispressed.Vibration alertUse the vibration alert when you need to receive callswithout disturbing others, i.e. during meetings.1 From standby, c to enter the menu,2e to select Settings, c to enter,3e to select Vibration, c to enter,4e to set vibration mode On or Off, c to apply.• is displayed when vibration mode is selected.Auto key lockThis feature automatically locks the keypad until you eitherreceive a call, or press and hold #. The keypad is lockedagain after the incoming call ends, or after inactivity. The symbol is displayed when the keypad is locked. To set:1 From standby, c to enter the menu,2e to select Settings, then Auto key lock,3e to select ON (or OFF), c to apply.Once set, press and hold # to unlock the keypad.Manual key lockYou can manually lock and unlock the keypad at any time.• Press and hold # to manually lock/unlock the keypad.Hot keysThe hot key function allows you to quickly access aregularly used feature by pressing and holding just onekey. Use the Hot Keys menu option to assign your chosenphone functions to the keys 2 to 9.To set Hot keys:Shortcut for keys that have not yet been assigned: Pressand hold the required key (2 to 9) until the displayshows ‘Not programmed’. Answering a second callYour phone allows you to accept a second incoming call,providing that you have a subscription to Call Waiting withyour network. Preventing and solving problems42• Smart (SIM) card may not be correctly located. Ensurethe SIM is correctly orientated and secured using themetal slider.• Damaged smart (SIM) card. Visually check it andreturn, if necessary to your Service Provider.• SIM contacts may be dirty. Clean the SIM contacts usinga dry cloth or a soft pencil eraser.PIN error• 3 incorrect entries. Type the Personal Unblocking Key(PUK) code, provided by your network (see Phonesecurity features section). If your PUK or PIN codes arelost, call your Service Provider.No connection to network• Weak signal. Move to higher ground, or to a window oropen space.• Outside GSM coverage. Check the network coveragemap to see whether you should have coverage.• SIM not valid. Contact your Service Provider.• New network not authorized. Try selecting the networkmanually, or try another network. If the problempersists, contact your Service Provider.Phone loses network• Weak signal. Reconnection, or connection to anothernetwork is automatic. Switching off and on mayaccelerate this.TroubleshootingIf you experience a problem when using your phone, firsttry to solve the problem using the information below:Can’t switch the phone on• Battery may be drained. Charge it and check thecharging indication in the display.• Battery contacts may be dirty. Clean the contacts onboth the battery and the phone using a dry cloth.Switch the phone on and off a few times.• New replacement battery. Recharge the battery.• The battery may have been incorrectly charged,inducing its automatic safety circuit which remains inforce for six hours. Remove battery and wait for sixhours, then refit and try to switch on your phone.No charging display• Battery may be drained. Charge it for 2 hours, thendisconnect and charge normally.• Battery may be defective. Battery performance reducesover a period of time. Replace the battery.
