To return to theoriginal caller, press flash again.NOTE: You must subscribe through your local telephone company toreceive Call Waiting Service.Storing a Phone Number in MemoryYour cordless phone has 1 Rocket Dial memory location and 10 additional memorylocations for storing important telephone numbers. You can store your most frequent dialednumber in the one-touch Rocket Dial location.1) Remove the handset from the base.2) Press mem. The talk/batt low LED flashes.3) Enter the phone number, up to 20 digits. If a pause is neededduring the dialing sequence, press redial/p to insert a pause.Each pause counts as a digit and represents a two second delayin time between digits as they are sent.4) Press mem again.To actually store a number in it’s designated location; 5) Press Rocket Dial.or5) Press memory location (0-9) on the keypad to store a number.A tone indicates that the number is stored. If you enter a number in a location that has apreviously stored number it will overwrite the existing number without warning.NOTES: • The pause button counts as one digit. Pressing redial/p more than onceincreases the length of pause between numbers.• You have 30 seconds after pressing mem to enter the number you wish to store. Otherwise, the handset will beep rapidly.• Memory location for the Rocket Dial is independent from the memory location forMemory Dial.Dialing a Stored NumberUsing the memory location features1) Press talk, then press mem.2) Enter the memory location (0-9) on the keypad. 7One-touch Rocket DialYour phone is equipped with “One-touch Rocket Dial” for instantdialing. It is used to dial the phone number stored in the one-touchRocket Dial location (See “Storing a Phone Number in Memory”).To instantly dial the phone number stored in the one-touch Rocket Diallocation, simply press Rocket Dial. (There is no need to press talk.The phone will automatically dial). If you press Rocket Dial and aphone number is not stored in the one-touch Rocket Dial location, thephone will beep rapidly and will not dial.Chain DialingThe memory locations on the handset are not limited to phone numbers. You can also storea group of numbers (up to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects. This isreferred to as Chain Dialing.An example of this is a bank account number. Once you have called your bank, and areprompted to enter the account number, simply press mem and the location number(0-9)wherethe special number has been stored.Store your special number in memory as you would store a phone number (Refer to“Storing a Phone Number in Memory”).Erasing a Stored Number from Memory1) Remove the handset from the base unit.2) Press mem twice.3) Press Rocket Dial or the memory location (0-9). A tone indicates that the stored numberis erased from memory.Changing the Digital Security CodeThe digital security code is an identification code used to connect the handset and the baseunit. Normally, setting the code is not necessary.The first time you charge your handset, the security code is automatically set. In the raresituation that you suspect another cordless telephone is using the same security code, youcan change the code.1) Remove the handset from the base unit. Press and hold find handset on the base.2) The handset begins emitting a paging sound. While holding find handset for at least 3seconds, place the handset in the base unit. The paging sound stops. Leave thehandset in the base for more than 3 seconds. A new random security code is set.NOTE: If the handset battery pack is completely discharged or the battery pack is removed,the digital security code will be lost. 8TroubleshootingIf your cordless telephone is not performing to your expectations, please try these simplesteps.NOTE: Do not attempt to service this unit yourself. Servicing must be performed byqualified personnel.SymptomThe charge/in use LED won’t illuminate when the handset is placed in the base.The audio sounds weak and/or scratchy.Can’t make or receive calls.Handset doesn’t ring or receive a page.Severe noise interference If you still have a problemSuggestion•Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the base and a wall outlet.•Make sure the handset is properly seated in the base.•Make sure that the charging contacts on the handset and on thebase are clean.•Move the handset and/or base to a different location away frommetal objects or appliances and try again.•Press channel to help eliminate background noise.•Check both ends of the telephone line cord.•Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the base and a wall outlet.•Make sure that the base antenna is in the vertical position.•Disconnect the AC adapter for a few minutes, then reconnect it.•Change the digital security code (See page 7).•Make sure that the handset is not too far from the base.•The Nickel-Cadmium battery pack may be weak. Charge thebattery for 15-20 hours.•The handset may be too far away from the base.•Place the base away from appliances or metal objects.•Change the digital security code (See page 7).•Keep the handset away from microwave ovens, computers, remotecontrol toys, wireless microphones, alarm systems, intercoms,room monitors, fluorescent lights, and electrical appliances.•Move to another location or turn off the source of interference.•Call our customer hotline at 1-800-297-1023Liquid DamageMoisture and liquid can damage your cordless phone. In case of accidental submersion,please read the following steps.CaseIf the handset or base is exposed to moisture or liquid, but only affects the exterior plastic housing.If moisture or liquid has entered the plastic-housing (i.e. liquid can be heard in the phone or liquid has entered the battery compartment).If the base unit or the handset is submerged or covered in a sticky substance, such as juice.ActionWipe off the liquid and use as normal.1. Remove the battery cover of the handset and leave it off for ventilation.2.Remove the battery pack by disconnecting. 3.Leave the battery cover off and the battery pack disconnected for3 days for maximum drying time.4. Once completely dry, reconnect the battery pack and the battery cover.5.Recharge the handset’s battery pack for 20 hours in the base unitbefore using the phone.IMPORTANT: You must unplug the telephone line whilerecharging the battery pack to avoid charge interruption.Handset:1.Remove the battery cover of the handset and the battery pack bydisconnecting. 2.Let dry for at least 3 days.3. Once completely dry, reconnect the battery pack and the battery cover. 4.Recharge the handset’s battery pack for 20 hours in the base unitbefore using the phone.Base:1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the base unit, ending power supply.2.Disconnect the telephone cord from the base unit.3.Let dry for at least 3 days.CAUTION:DO NOT use a microwave oven to speed up the drying time. Charge the battery pack provided with or identified for use withthis product only in accordance with the instructions andlimitations specified in the owner’s manual provided for thisproduct.6. 10against other range claims.Telephone Line ProblemsThe FCC has granted the telephone company the right todisconnect service in the event that your phone causes problemson the telephone line. Also, the telephone company may makechanges in facilities and services which may affect the operation ofyour unit. However, your telephone company must give adequatenotice in writing prior to such actions to allow you time for makingnecessary arrangements to continue uninterrupted service.If you are having trouble with your telephone service, you mustfirst disconnect your phone to determine if it is the cause of yourproblem. If you determine that it is the cause, you must leave itdisconnected until the trouble has been corrected.Radio InterferenceRadio interference may occasionally cause buzzing and humming inyour cordless handset, or clicking noises in the base. Thisinterference is caused by external sources such as TV, refrigerator,vacuum cleaner, fluorescent lighting, or electrical storm. Your unitis NOT DEFECTIVE. If these noises continue and are too distracting,please check around your home to see what appliances may becausing the problem. In addition, we recommend that the base notbe plugged into a circuit that also powers a major appliancebecause of the potential for interference. Be certain that theantenna on the unit is fully extended when needed.In the unlikely event that you consistently hear other voices ordistracting transmissions on your phone, you may be receivingradio signals from another cordless telephone or other source ofinterference. If you cannot eliminate this type of interference, youneed to change to a different channel.Finally, it should be noted that some cordless telephones operateat frequencies that may cause interference to nearby TVs and VCRs.To minimize or prevent such interference, the base of the cordlesstelephone should not be placed near or on top of a TV or VCR. Ifinterference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone fartheraway from the TV or VCR will often reduce or eliminate theinterference.More Than One Cordless TelephoneIf you want to use more than one cordless telephone in your home,they must operate on different channels. Press the channel key toselect a channel that provides the clearest communication.Cordless Telephone PrivacyCordless telephones are radio devices. Communications between thehandset and base of your cordless telephone are accomplished bymeans of radio waves which are broadcast over the open airways.Because of the inherent physical properties of radio waves, yourcommunications can be received by radio receiving devices otherthan your own cordless telephone unit. Consequently, anycommunications using your cordless telephone may not be private.Installation ConsiderationsSelecting a LocationBefore choosing a location for your new phone, there are someimportant guidelines you should consider:• The location should be close to both a phone jack andcontinuous power outlet. (A continuous power outlet is an ACoutlet which does not have a switch to interrupt its power.)• Keep the base and handset away from sources of electricalnoise such as motors or fluorescent lighting.• Be sure there is sufficient space to fully extend the baseantenna.• The base can be placed on a desk or tabletop or mounted on astandard telephone wall plate.• You should charge your new phone for 15-20 hours beforecompleting the installation or using the handset.Telephone Line OutletsThere are two types of phone outlets:Modular JackMost phone equipment available now uses modular jacks. Phonecords are fitted with a molded plastic connector which plugs intothis type of jack. If you do not have modular phone jacks, contactyour local telephone company for information about theirinstallation.Hardwired JackSome equipment is wired directly to a phone jack, and these typesof installations require a modular jack converter. This type ofinstallation is not difficult; however, you should contact yourUniden telephone dealer or a telephone supply store for adviceabout the proper adapter or converter for your particular situation.Connecting the Telephone CordsConsider these safety guidelines before connecting the telephonecords:Caution!• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.• Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless thetelephone line has been disconnected.• Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.Applying Power to the BaseThis phone requires an AC outlet, without a switch to interruptpower, and the included AC adapter.
