INSTALL THE BATTERIESYour GMRS522-2 radio uses the included NiMH battery pack or 3 AA alkaline batteries. If alkaline batteries are used, we recommend using high qualityalkaline batteries.To install the NiMH battery pack:1) Make sure your radio is OFF.2) Remove the battery compartment door by pressing the tab at the bottom of the compartment door allowing the door to be removed.3) Place the NiMH battery pack in the compartment,paying close attention to the alignment key. If theNiMH battery pack is installed incorrectly, the unitwill not operate and the compartment door willnot close properly.4) Replace the battery compartment door.5) The battery pack must be charged before usingfor the first time. Press and hold the select/lock key again.b. Press PTT. (Push To Talk)c. If you have any questions you can contact the FCC direct at 1-888-225-5322.Auto Squelch FeatureThe GMRS522-2 radio is equipped with anautomatic squelch system which shuts offweak transmissions and unwanted noise dueto terrain conditions or if you have reachedyour range limit.Automatic Power Save FeatureYour GMRS522-2 radio has a unique circuit designedto dramatically extend the life of the batteries.If thereis no transmission within 5 seconds, your radioswitches to the Power Save mode.The radio is stillable to receive transmissions in this mode.LCD BacklightThe LCD backlight will automatically turn on whenany key is pressed.The LCD display will illuminate for 5 seconds before turning off.2) When you are finished speaking, releasethe PTT button.You can now receiveincoming calls.While receiving, the RRXXicon will appear on the display.the charging cradle allowing 12-14 hours charging time to fully charge the battery pack.NOTE: Always make sure your battery pack is fullydischarged before recharging to prolong the life ofthe battery pack.To install the 3 AA alkaline batteries:1) Make sure your radio is OFF.2) Remove the battery compartment door by pressing the tab at the bottom of the compartment door allowing the door to be removed.3) Install 3 AA alkaline batteries (not included) intothe battery compartment. Be certain to follow the+ and - symbols in the compartment.Installingthe batteries incorrectly will prevent the unit fromoperating.4) Replace the battery compartment door.Channel Scan FeatureYour GMRS522-2 radio has a channel Scan feature that allows you to easily Scan all 22channels.When an active channel is detected,the unit will pause on that channel until thechannel is clear.Then after a 4 second delay,the unit will continue scanning.Pressing PTTwhile the Scan is paused on a channel willallow you to transmit on that channel.To turn ON channel scanning:Press and hold either the ▲or ▼key untilthe SSCCAANNicon is  displayed.The channelnumber on the display will rapidly cyclethrough the channels.To turn OFF channel scanning:Press and release either the ▲or ▼key.Keypad LockTo Lock the keypad, press and hold the select/lockkey until the       icon is displayed.To remove the keypad Lock, press and hold the select/lock key until the Lock icon disappears.GMRS522-2_OM.qxd  01/15/2002  5:33 PM  Page 1
