Park in a safe place first.•Unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket whenever the engine ofthe car is not running. Depending on the car type, even if the ignition keyis off, the power supply may not turn off automatically. In this case, thismay cause unnecessary car battery consumption.•When not in use, unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket andstore in a safe place where it will not interfere with your driving or becomeentangled in parts of the car interior (seat, door, etc.). To disconnect theunit, grasp the unit and pull it. Never pull the cord connected to the unit.• Should any liquid or solid object fall into the unit, disconnect the unitfrom the cigarette lighter socket and the equipment and have the unitchecked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.Installation•Do not place this unit in a location where it is:–subject to extreme high temperature.–subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.–subject to mechanical vibration or shock.–subject to excessive dust.• Be sure to fully secure the connected device connected to the unit toavoid moving when braking.Operation•Never yank or pull the cables. This may cause malfunctions or wire breaks.•To prevent damage, be careful not to drop or hit the unit. This is not a malfunction.•After using, disconnect the unit from the cigarette lighter socket and the equipment.On charging•Make sure the current and voltage of the WALKMAN rechargeable device matchthe outlet.•For safety, if the input current is too high, the unit will automatically shut down.•To avoid short-circuiting, do not allow the terminals of the unit orconnector to touch any metal object.•Note that data stored in the WALKMAN connected to this unit may belost or damaged if the engine is started or stopped with this unit insertedinto the cigarette lighter socket.TroubleshootingShould any problem persist after you have made the following checks,consult your nearest Sony dealer.There is no sound from the WALKMAN to the car radio.❒This unit is not fully plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.cInsert this unit correctly and securely.❒This unit is not fully connected to the WALKMAN.cConnect this unit correctly and securely.❒The transmission frequency of the unit and the FM car radio do not coincide.cSet both the unit and the FM car radio to the same frequency.❒There is no sound from the connecting WALKMAN.cStart playback on the WALKMAN.cSet the volume control of the WALKMAN as high as possible butnot so high that the audio signal becomes distorted.The volume is low.❒The volume of the WALKMAN is set too low.cSet the volume control of the car audio unit as high as possible butnot so high that the audio signal becomes distorted.The sound is distorted.❒The bass boost function on the WALKMAN is on.cCancel the bass boost function.Noise is generated.❒The frequency of the unit does not coincide with the FM car radio.cSet the unit and the FM car radio to the same frequency.❒The reception from this unit is not good.cRoute the antenna cable for the unit inside the car. Position theantenna close to the car antenna, or stabilize the antenna cable withthe magnet to the passenger’s seat rail, and so on. Park in a safe place first.Notes•Ensure that this unit is safely installed so as not to interfere with theoperation of the accelerator or gears.•Never perform connection and operation while your car is in motion.•For details about car radio, car radio antenna and the connectedWALKMAN, refer to the operating instructions supplied with theWALKMAN.Set the car radio1Set your car radio to FM.2Select a channel that does not get good FM broadcastreception between 88.1 MHz–107.9 MHz.The FM broadcast reception conditions may change as your locationchanges. If the selected frequency becomes occupied by a broadcastsignal, select another open frequency.NoteTurn the car radio volume down before setting the car radio.Install the unit1Connect the WM-PORT connector to the WM-PORT ofyour WALKMAN. (See fig. A-1)2Insert this cigarette lighter plug into the cigarette lightersocket securely until the frequency appears in the frequencydisplay window (See fig. A-2).3Press the frequency +/– button repeatedly to select the samefrequency that you set on the car radio.Each press changes the frequency by 0.1 MHz, cycling through88.1 MHz–107.9 MHz.Tips•Keep pressing the frequency +/– button to change the frequency rapidly.• The next time you turn on this unit, this unit is tuned to the lastselected frequency.4Start playback on the WALKMAN.Notes• Do not activate any bass boost or equalizer function on theWALKMAN. Otherwise, sound may be distorted.•While connected to this unit, you cannot adjust the volume on theWALKMAN. Adjust the volume on the car audio unit.5Route the antenna cable inside the car for best audioreception from this unit.The method to install the antenna cable will depend on yourcar type. Find the position that provides the best reception,and then install the cable (See fig. B).Notes•Route the antenna cable close to the car antenna. This may help toimprove the reception from this unit.• For details about the car radio antenna, refer to the car operatinginstructions.About the antenna cable magnetThe antenna cable is supplied with a magnet attached at theend. It is used to anchor the cable to a metal part of the car,such as a passenger’s seat rail. The magnet at the end of theantenna cable is to anchor the antenna’s best receptionposition and prevents it being moved, for example, whenpassengers get in or out of the car.To use the antenna cable magnet, do the following(See fig. C).1Route the antenna cable where the best reception from this unit isobtained.2Attach the magnet at the end of the antenna cable to a metal part ofthe car, such as a passenger’s seat rail, to anchor the antenna cablein place.3If the reception from this unit becomes worse after attaching themagnet at the end of the antenna cable to a passenger’s seat rail,etc., in step 2, revert to a previous position (to best reception) instep 1, without using the magnet (without attaching it to apassenger’s seat rail, etc.).Notes•Be careful to line the cable so that it will not interfere with driving,become entangled with passenger movements, or be damaged byseat adjustments, etc.•If the magnet is attached near movable objects, such as doors or seatrails, make sure that the antenna cable does not become entangled.This may cause the wire to break.•Do not leave floppy disks or personal credit cards with magneticcoding near the antenna cable magnet.If the reception from this unit declinesIf the reception from this unit declines, even though it was good at thefrequency set in the beginning, solve the problem referring to the followingremedies, according to your circumstances.After setup, reception from this unit declines while driving.cFM broadcast reception may be poor in certain locations, such asunderground parking, behind tall buildings, etc. If the car radio andthis unit were set up in such a location; due to poor FM broadcastreception, the frequency you set for this unit may be alreadyoccupied. If so, the occupying FM broadcast station is receivedwhen its reception conditions improve (as you drive) resulting ininterference with this unit’s same set frequency. In this case, resetthe car radio and this unit to another open frequency in a locationwhere the FM broadcast reception is better.Reception from this unit is disrupted when you move to a newlocation.cFM broadcast reception conditions vary from one location toanother. After setting an open frequency in one location, as youmove to other areas, that frequency may become occupied by abroadcast station’s signal. In this case, reset the frequency on boththe car radio and this unit to another open frequency.Interference or noise occurs.cOther FM broadcasts or non-licensed broadcastings in a city area mayinterfere with the reception of the frequency set for this unit. In thiscase, set the car radio and this unit to a less-influenced frequency.To memorize the selected frequencyThe frequency for the memory buttons is set to 88.1 MHz at the factorysetting.Select the frequency in step 3 of “Install the unit,” then hold down one ofthe memory buttons until the memory button number appears in thefrequency display window.Once you memorize the desired frequency, you can select it by simplypressing the memory button.NoteIf a frequency is already memorized on the button, that frequency will bereplaced with the new one.Charge your WALKMANWALKMAN operation while charging varies depending on theWALKMAN.1Set the WALKMAN to recharge.It may not be necessary to set the WALKMAN to recharge. (SeeWALKMAN’s Operation Guide.)2When charging is finished, disconnect the WALKMANfrom this unit.Notes•Plug securely into the cigarette lighter socket.•This unit may not fit, depending on the location or shape of the cigarettelighter socket.•Be careful to route all the cables properly so that:–they will not interfere with your driving.–they will be out of the reach of children.•Install this unit in a manner that will not hinder the airbag function in anemergency.•Do not use the device in a place subject to liquid or moisture to avoid fireor electric shock.•Do not place this unit or the WALKMAN in a location where it is subjectto extreme high temperature. It mat result in damage.While not using this unitTo avoid unnecessary car battery consumption, unplug this unit from thecigarette lighter socket when not in use.When you turn the car engine offUnplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket whenever the engine ofthe car is not running. Depending on the car type, even if the engine is off,the power supply may not turn off automatically. In this case, this maycause unnecessary car battery consumption.Fastening the unitYou can fasten the unit to your car interior using the supplied Hook andLoop Fasteners.1Peel the back of the one of the Hook and Loop Fastener(See fig. D-1).2Stick the Hook and Loop Fastener to the unit(See fig. D-2).3Peel the back of the other Hook and Loop Fastener filmsheet (See fig. D-3).4Stick the Hook and Loop Fastener to a flat surface of the carinterior (See fig. D-4).5Match the Hook and Loop Fasteners to fasten the unit(See fig. D-5).Notes•Do not place the unit or the Hook and Loop Fastener onto places such as :–the shift lever or the hand brake–around the moving parts of the driver’s seat or the passenger’s seat–in direct sunlight, such as on the dashboard or steering wheel, where itmay deform–where the unit stands vertically.• Remove any dirt or dust from surfaces before attaching the fasteners.Fuse ReplacementIf this unit does not work correctly, check the fuse of the cigarette lighter plug.If the fuse is blown, replace it (See fig. A-1).3Appuyez plusieurs fois sur la touche de fréquence +/– poursélectionner la même fréquence que celle réglée surl’autoradio.À chaque pression, la fréquence change par incréments de 0,1 MHz,passant par cycle entre 88,1 MHz et 107,9 MHz.Conseils•Vous pouvez régler l’angle pour que les indications de l’écran soientbien visibles (Voir fig. Sinon le son risque d’être déformé.•Réglez la commande du volume de l’appareil audio portable à unniveau aussi élevé que possible, mais pas au point de déformer le signalaudio. Si le son est encore faible, augmentez le volume sur l’autoradio.5Faites passer le câble d’antenne à l’intérieur de la voiturepour améliorer la réception de l’appareil.L’installation du câble d’antenne diffère selon le type devotre voiture. Testez l’installation pour trouver la meilleureposition de réception, puis installez le câble d’antenne (voirfig. B).Remarques•Faites passer le câble d’antenne près de l’antenne de la voiture. Cecipeut améliorer la réception de votre appareil.•Pour plus de détails sur l’antenne de l’autoradio, reportez-vous aumode d’emploi du véhicule.À propos de l’aimant du câble d’antenneLe câble d’antenne est fourni avec un aimant fixé à sonextrémité. Il est utilisé pour relier le câble à une partiemétallique du véhicule, comme à la glissière du siègepassager. L’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sert àfixer la position de réception optimale de l’antenne et àempêcher qu’elle ne bouge, par exemple lorsque lespassagers entrent dans la voiture ou qu’ils en sortent.Pour utiliser l’aimant du câble d’antenne, effectuezles opérations suivantes. (Voir fig. C)1Faites passer le câble d’antenne là où la réception de l’appareil estla meilleure.2Fixez l’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sur une partiemétallique du véhicule, sur la glissière du siège passager parexemple, afin de maintenir le câble d’antenne en place.3Si, à l’étape 2, la réception de l’appareil devient mauvaise aprèsla fixation de l’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sur laglissière du siège passager, etc., revenez à la position précédente(meilleure réception possible) de l’étape 1, sans utiliser l’aimant(sans le fixer sur la glissière du siège passager, etc.).Remarques• Veillez à aligner le câble afin qu’il ne gêne pas la conduite, qu’il nese coince pas lors des mouvements des passagers ou qu’il ne soit pasendommagé lors du réglage des sièges, etc.•Si l’aimant est fixé à proximité d’objets mobiles, tels que desportières ou des glissières de sièges, vérifiez que le câble d’antennene se coince pas. En pareil cas, réglezla fréquence sur l’autoradio et sur cet appareil à une autrefréquence libre.Des interférences ou des parasites se produisent.cD’autres émissions FM ou des émissions sans autorisation en villepeuvent interférer avec la réception de la fréquence définie pourcet appareil.Dans ce cas, réglez l’autoradio et cet appareil à une fréquencemoins susceptible d’être perturbée.Mémorisation de la fréquence sélectionnéeLe réglage par défaut des touches de mémoire est 88,1 MHz.Sélectionnez une fréquence à l’étape 3 « Installez l’appareil », puismaintenez l’une des touches de mémoire enfoncée jusqu’à ce que lenuméro de la touche s’affiche dans la fenêtre d’affichage de la fréquence.Une fois la fréquence souhaitée mémorisée, vous pouvez la sélectionner enappuyant sur la touche de mémoire.RemarqueSi une fréquence est déjà mémorisée sur la touche, elle est remplacée par lanouvelle.Mise en charge d’unappareilVous pouvez charger un Walkman et un iPod USB rechargeable.Certains modèles ne peuvent toutefois pas être rechargés avec cet appareil.Pour connaître ces modèles, reportez-vous à « Modèles USB rechargeables »,au dernier catalogue ou à la page d’accueil.1Réglez le commutateur de sélection d’appareil rechargeableà « Sony » ou « iPod », selon l’appareil utilisé.
