32 33The WIRELESS FM TRANSMITTER is the easiest and quickestway to hear XM programming in your vehicle. Simply setyour FM radio and your AirWare to the same frequency.Signal quality, however, may not be as good as othermethods.Placing the antennaYour XM antenna should be mounted on the vehicle’smetallic roof, at least 6" from any window or sunroof. Itcan be placed in the front, middle, or rear of the roof.Avoid crimping, twisting, or chafingthe XM antennacable. Try to useexisting holes, bodygrommets, and otherwiring channels. If the vehicle is ahard- or soft-topconvertible, you may mount the antenna on the metaltrunk lid. It should be at least 4" from the rear window.Ensure that the antenna and cable don’t interfere with theopening or closing of the convertible top and the trunk lid.TIP: If you route the antenna cable through the trunkseal, use the lowest part of the weather seal. This shouldminimize any water leaks.TIP: If you use your AirWare’s wireless FM transmitter, mount the XM antenna as close to your vehicle’s FMantenna as possible. The FM antenna may be a wire ormetallic strip embedded in the windshield or rear window.TIP: Don’t install the XM antenna inside your vehicle oron a nonmetallic surface. Doing so will likely degradethe signal and you will probably experience more signalinterruptions.NOTE: Satellite Radio reception depends on the ability ofthe antenna to receive/record a signal. The signal may not be available in buildings or if obstructed (e.g., by mountains, trees, bridges, etc.).(Two optional locations)user_gd_engfinl6.r3.qxd 3/25/05 12:46 PM Page 32
34 35Mounting your AirWare on the dashWe’ve included three types of mounts to help you installyour AirWare in your vehicle’s interior.FLUSH MOUNT: Attach the includedadhesive pad to the back of your AirWare’s vehicle docking station. Stick the vehicle docking station onto a flat surface in your vehicle, preparing the surface as described below. Do not install the mount on a leather surface. Doing so could permanently damage the surface.VENT MOUNT: Assemble the ventmount as shown. Find a horizontalair vent that is strong enough tohold the weight of your AirWare andits docking station. Clip the ventmount into the vent.SWIVEL MOUNT: Find a suitablelocation; the mount uses a strongadhesive and you’ll have difficultyrepositioning it after installation.Do not install this mount on aleather surface. Doing so couldpermanently damage the surface.Make sure the air temperature is atleast 60°F.1. Clean the mounting surface with the enclosed surfacepreparation kit. Allow to air-dry.2. Clean the same surface with the alcohol prep pad.Allow to air-dry.3. You may warm the adhesive pad using a hair dryeror the vehicle’s defroster. Place the swivel mountaccurately since it will bond on the first try.4. For best results, do not touch or apply any pressureto the vehicle mount for 72 hours. To remove the swivel mount, first try lifting the adhesivepad with your fingers or a spoon. You may warm it witha hair dryer for 2-3 minutes to help soften the adhesive.Remove any leftover adhesive from the dash surface byrubbing with your finger, or you can use a mild cleaneras recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer.Warning: AirWare should be placed in your vehiclewhere it will not interfere with the function of safetyfeatures, e.g., deployment of airbags. Failure to correctlyplace AirWare may result in injury to you or others if theunit becomes detached during an accident and/orobstructs the deployment of an airbag.Using AirWare On The GoYour AirWare contains a built-in antenna that works bestwhen your AirWare receiver is upright. Use the belt clip tohold your AirWare in the proper position; laying yourAirWare down flat may weaken reception.TIP: If you carry your AirWare in a bag or use it whileexercising, you can lock the buttons and dial andprevent something from accidentally pressing thebuttons. Press and hold the “mute/pause/lock” buttonuntil you see the lock indicator in the display. To unlockthe controls, press and hold the “mute/pause/lock”button until the lock indicator disappears.TIP: The belt clip doubles as a table stand; just pull outthe back leg.TIP: You can plug the AC or cigarette lighter adaptordirectly into the bottom of your AirWare.user_gd_engfinl6.r3.qxd 3/25/05 12:46 PM Page 34
