PAE T6TR TRANSCEIVER, VHF Multimode Digital Radio (MDR)PAE T6TRThe PAE T6TR TRANSCEIVERfor advanced airspace communicationsThe PAE T6TR multimode digitaltransceiver for ground-to-aircommunications is intended for use at low and medium density airports and air traffic control installations, emergency servicesand airline communications. The compactdimensions allow the T6TR to be convenientlyused for both desk and rack mountoperations. The radio supports both voice and ICAO defined data modes. The radio can be operated locally using thefront panel controls, or remotely via flexiblecontrol interfaces. STANDBY mode allows the radio to be powered on and off remotely to ensure minimal current drain on local power supplies. A 100 channel memory allows immediate recall of stored frequencies.Frequency change can be inhibited to preventunauthorised tuning. Both 8.33 kHz and 25 kHz channel spacingare incorporated. The T6TR recognisesfrequencies entered in ICAO format andautomatically adjusts to the correct channelspacing. For multichannel operation, anycombination of 8.33 kHz and 25 kHz channelspacing can be programmed.Careful implementation of DSP techniquessignificantly reduces the component countwithin the radio. This leads to increasedreliability and reduced logistic costs. All modulation and demodulation processes are carried out using DSP algorithms thatprovide consistent long-term performance to further enhance equipment reliability. All adjustable parameters within the radio canbe modified using the front panel controls, orfrom a computer connected to the headset/diagnostics port, eliminating the need toremove equipment covers during theoperational life of the radio. The use of innovative RF engineering alliedto sophisticated DSP technology providesclass leading performance. The advanceddesign of the T6TR transceiver allows operationin demanding co-site conditions, reducing theneed for external filters. The transmitteremploys a sophisticated feedback technique thatminimizes spectral noise and enhances signalpurity. The power amplifier is designed foroptimum performance and maximum reliabilityand will support continuous operation applications. The receiver circuitry benefits from uniqueDSP implemented Digital Coherent Mute(DCM) technology. DCM uses speciallydeveloped algorithms that monitor on-channelactivity and dynamically filter unwanted interferingsignals. The receiver front-end has exceptionalsignal handling properties that ensure rejectionof unwanted off-channel signals while maintainingexcellent low level wanted signal performance. Two antenna ports are provided allowing maximumflexibility, these may be configured for separatereceiver and transmitter antenna connections, ora single combined receive/transmit antenna. The use of separate antenna ports allows the T6TRto be used with filter multicouplers in largersystem applications. A solid state T/R switchingrelay is used to provide both long-term reliabilityand the high speed necessary for VDL modes.Comprehensive Built-In Test (BIT) monitorsboth static and dynamic parameters. Results can be viewed on the front panel LCD and summarised via READY and ALARMindicators. All BIT data is available for remotemonitoring via serial ports and transceivers can be readily networked for remote monitoringusing the PAE Multi-Access Remote Control(MARC) or similar systems.
