5 Safety Precautions Do not expose your device to excessively high or low temperatures. Avoid direct sunlight. Avoid heating or cooling the battery. An excessively hot battery may cause skin burns. Please note that the operating temperature range from 0°С to 40°С. Avoid exposure to direct flame or smoke (cigarette, lighter, open fire etc.). Avoid exposure to liquids or damp (do not use the device in the rain, in the street at higher humidity, near bodies of water etc.). Avoid penetration of liquids or moisture as this may cause short circuit and/or damage to the battery. If liquid does get into the device, remove the battery immediately and contact the authorized service center. Do not leave the device for a long time in poorly ventilated environment, e.g. in a car or in closed tight boxes/packaging. Avoid exposure to strong electromagnetic fields. Neither drop nor try to bend the device. If the device is damaged contact the authorized service center. Do not disassemble or modify the book reader. Only authorized personnel may conduct work on the device. This device is not waterproof and must not be used under water. If your device has become wet contact the authorized center immediately. Do not use the device with a damaged battery, charger (broken case, poor contact, broken feed cable) or SD card. If the battery is damaged (cracked case, leakage of electrolyte, off-shape etc.) it should be replaced.
6 Do not replace the battery yourself. Use of home-made or modified batteries may cause an explosion and/or damage the device. Warning! Do not destroy the battery by burning it, to avoid the danger of explosion! Avoid any mechanical pressure on the screen. Protect the screen from objects that may scratch or damage it. To ensure adequate protection of the screen, we recommend storing the device in a protective and/or hard cover. Do not use organic or inorganic solvents (e.g. benzol etc.) to clean the screen/case. Use a soft cloth to remove dust from the device's surface. To remove dirt apply a few drops of distilled water. To remove persistent dirt contact the authorized center. Do not expose the screen to electrostatic charges or artificial sources of UV electromagnetic radiation. Up to five faulty pixels are acceptable in the screen and do not constitute a warrantable defect of the screen. Never leave cables near heat sources. Heated cables or their insulation may become deformed or damaged, which could lead to fire or electric shock. Avoid any mechanical impacts onto connectors and keys of the device. This may affect their operation and cause malfunction. Disposal of electric and electronic components (the Directive is applicable to the EU and other European countries where separate waste disposal systems exist). In other countries dispose batteries accordingly to local laws. Incorrect disposal of this device may have adverse impacts on the environment and public health. To prevent such consequences follow
7 the device-specific disposal requirements. Recycling of these materials helps preserve natural resources. For more information regarding recycling issues please contact local municipal authorities, your domestic waste collection service, store where you purchased the device, or the authorized service center. Do not use wireless communication in places where it is prohibited. Please, do not use wireless communication onboard a plane and in hospitals – this may affect airborne avionics or medical equipment. This book reader receives and transmits radio frequencies and may interfere with radio communications and other electronic equipment. If you use personal medical devices (e.g. a pacemaker or hearing aid) please contact your doctor or the manufacturer to learn whether or not such medical devices are protected against external RF signals. By the end of product guarantee term, please contact the nearest authorized service facility for examination on the subject of security is maintained. Keep away from children.

11 Getting Started STEP 1. CHARGING THE BATTERY Charge your device for 8-12 hours for the first time. During the first charge, the device should be kept off. To charge the battery for the first time: 1. Make sure the device and its power indicator are off. If it is on, keep the ‘On/Off’ button pressed for a few seconds 2. Select ‘Power Off’ on the context menu, that appears 3. Connect your device to computer or power supply using the micro USB cable Note It’s not recommended to use the device during charging from computer, as power consumption in this case would be more, then charging 4. LED indicator starts blinking green as soon as the charging process starts 5. When the battery is fully charged, the indicator turns solid green 6. Now you can disconnect the device from the power line, and turn it on for the first time. STEP 2. TURNING ON Keep ‘On/Off’ pressed for about 2 seconds until startup logo will appear.
12 When the device is ready to operate, the lock screen appears. The lock screen can be unlocked in two ways: either by pressing the Menu button on the front panel or by touching the lock icon in the screen and sliding your finger over the screen in the direction indicated by the arrow, till the screen becomes unlocked. After unlocking, Home Screen will be displayed. STEP 3. INITIAL SETTINGS Follow the Wizard instructions to customize the main parameters. After finishing the customization, Home Screen will appear.
13 Controls and Navigation Finger Gestures TAP Short soft touch on an item (e.g. application or folder icon, menu item) opens it. If item can be opened with various applications, you will be asked to select an application to open with. You can set your choice as default one. PRESS AND HOLD This gesture calls context menu with available options for an item. While you at Home Screen, it allows to move an item. SLIDE Slide means move finger across the screen vertically or horizontally. DRAG To drag an item, press and hold it until you reach final position. FLICK Flicking is similar to sliding, but you need to move your finger more rapidly. It’s used for scrolling through lists.
14 PINCH In particular applications (e.g. viewing images, maps) to zoom in or zoom out, you can ‘pinch’ the screen: move or push two fingers. Menus Most applications have two types of menu: quick and context one. Quick menu is brought up by pressing ‘Menu’ hardware button on a front panel. Context menu is called by continuous touch on a screen or item, depending on application. Home Screen Home screen consists of 5 desktops. To scroll the Home screen, move your finger across the screen or tip the counter icon in the left or right corner of the screen. Continuous touch on one of them brings up the thumbnails of all five desktops for quick switching between them. Desktop may contain shortcuts, widgets and control panels. In the bottom of screen next starters are located:  Settings – opens settings panel  Applications – opens applications panel  Browser – opens the web browser. If browser already opened, it will be opened in current state.
15  Recycle Bin – starter is activated after continuo’s touch on icon or widget. To delete element, drag-and-drop it to Recycle Bin and release after it highlights in red. Context menu of the Home Screen allows you to customize interface to your own, adding shortcuts, widgets, folders and wallpapers to a desktop. Initially next widgets are available:  Analog clock  Calendar  Continue Reading – displays recently opened books  Google Search  Home screen tips  Latitude  Market – Android market widget  Music  New & Weather  Obreey widget – displays new books at Obreey online bookstore  Picture frame – crops an image to place it on a desktop
16  Power Control – optimizing the power consumption of the device. Has such options: o Wi-Fi on/off o Bluetooth on/off o Synchronization – controls background synchronization (e.g. for email application) o Brightness – 3 levels of screen illumination  Rate places  YouTube Quick menu contains such options:  Add – adding elements to the desktop, similar to the context menu  Manage apps – application manager  Search  Notification – system and email notifications  Settings – general settings. STATUS BAR The status bar, located at the top of the screen, displays:  date and time  battery status
17  Wi-Fi status  count of incoming messages  external card icon  USB connection status Press the status bar and pull it down to view detailed information. Using the On-Screen Keyboard To access the on-screen keyboard, touch any textbox. The screen will display a standard keyboard. Enter your text by touching the keys of the on-screen keyboard. To change input language, slide your finger over the Space button. You can customize input languages and other options in appropriate Settings section.
18 Software To access application list, press Applications starter on the bottom of Home screen. This panel displays all installed applications. PocketBook A10 lets you install any programs designed for the Android™ operating system except those which utilize any modules or functions which are not available in the device. The programs can be installed manually by copying the installation package to the device and running the installation wizard from File Manager. You can create a shortcut to an application at any desktop. Scroll Home Screen to the desktop you need, then open application list. Touch and hold desired application icon until the desktop appears. After you release an icon, it appears on a desktop.
19 Application Management To access application manager, call quick menu at Home Screen (press Menu hardware button button) and press ‘Manage apps’. Application manager displays application in next categories:  Downloaded  All  On SD card  Running To view application information, just touch its name. Application manager will display storage, cache and permissions information. Application manager allows to stop, uninstall, move to SD card or to device storage, clear application data and cache.
20 Library This application used for displaying, managing and purchasing (via Obreey store) books on the device. To enter Library, tap the ‘Books’ icon on the Main panel. Note: Files in media formats (i.e. music, video etc.) are not displayed in the Library. To access these files, use the File Manager Library has 4 tabs:  Library – displays all the books, stored on device  History – recently opened books  Favorites  Online – Obreey online bookstore. Books in Library can be represented in two modes: Shelves (by default) and Folders. In Shelves mode you can arrange books to your own, without changing their location in memory. Folders mode displays books as they stored.
21 QUICK MENU  Search  Sorting – by Title, by Author or by Date  Thumbnails/Lists – toggles view  Add Shelf  Folders/Shelves – toggles presentation mode  Downloads – books, downloaded from Obreey online store. CONTEXT MENU Touch continuously on book icon to bring up context menu:  Open  Add to/Remove from Favorites  Mark as read/unread  Shelves – select shelves containing the book  View Info – displays detailed info about the book.
22 OBREEY ONLINE BOOKSTORE You can purchase and download books from Obreey online store directly from Library, just press ‘Online’ tab to open Obreey website. Note To enter the bookstore, the device must have preconfigured Internet connection. Loading Books to the Memory Connect your device to PC via mini-USB cable. Internal memory and external SD card will be displayed in Windows Explorer or any file manager of another application. Copy books to the selected folder to the device memory or to the SD card. Loading Protected Books (DRM) You can download protected books in two ways. LOADING BOOKS VIA .ACSM LINK  Visit website www.adobe.com using your PC browser  Enter (Products) section  In alphabet list go to link ‘Digital Editions’  To enter library, go to ‘Visit Sample eBook Library’  Select book  Press ‘Download Item’
23  Save .acsm file to your PC Note You can follow similar instructions to download link to protected book from any online bookstore. To open protected book, do the following:  Copy book link (.acsm) file to external memory card.  Find and open this file using the File Manager  Activate your device following the on-screen instructions. Enter your www.adobe.com account information in ‘Activation’ form. After that you will be able to download book. Full version of the book will be available for reading in Digital Edition folder. Loaded book is protected and cannot be opened by unregistered user. LOADING BOOKS VIA PC  Open application ‘Adobe Digital Editions’ Note Application will ask you to activate the device after you connect it for the first time. Use your www.adobe.com account information to proceed.  Switch to library view (‘Go to Library View’)  Press ‘All items’
24  Find a book and copy it to the device (you can just drag-and-drop it to the device icon). To open it, use your account information on www.adobe.com. Note You won’t be able to copy book using ‘Adobe Digital Editions’ if your device is not activated. Reading Mode In reading mode, the corresponding viewing program opens the selected file. Main features:  Paging  Display rotation  Zoom  Switching to specified page  Linking inside the book  Bookmark managing  Notes managing  Switch to Structured Table of Contents  Adding to Favorites  Marking book as read/unread  Viewing book info  Display configuration.
25 PAGING To go to the next or previous page, slide your finger in direction, opposite to where you want to go. This movement is similar to page turning when you are reading a paper book. Paging is also available in the main operation menu. To open main operation menu, tap on the status bar at the bottom of the screen, when you are reading a book. When reading books in PDF and DJVU formats, if content does not fit the page, you can move the image. To move the image, press and hold your finger in the centre on the display and move the image. Panel of Basic Commands To call the command panel, just touch the Status bar. LOCKING SCREEN ROTATION Selecting this function, you can lock and unlock the current screen position, overcoming accelerometer.
26 FIT TO WIDTH For graphic format files. This function restores the book display scale using a page size equal to screen width. ZOOMING You can zoom book, using the ‘+’/‘-’ buttons on the panel of basic commands. REFLOW Zooming mode changes the font size. To enter this mode, bring up the context menu holding the finger in the center of the screen, and select ‘Reflow’ option. Change font size using command panel '+' and '-' buttons. To exit reflow mode, select ‘Hard page’ context menu option. CURRENT PAGE AND TURNING PAGES The cells of right-hand side of the command panel display page-turning arrows, current page, and total number of pages. You can turn the pages by pressing the arrows. To go to the specified page, press the cell with the current page number with your finger and then use the on-screen keyboard to enter the page number you want to go to in the opened textbox 'Go to page'. Note: Scale changing or menu calling is accompanied by changes of the visible screen area and the reader recalculates the total number of pages in the book. This can take some time.
27 Linking Inside the Book Some book formats allow you to link inside a book. References in the text are highlighted. To go to the link, press and hold the required link. The reference will open as a separate page. To return to the book, press the 'Return' button Quick Menu To access the Quick Menu, click the "Menu" button on the device’s front panel. Note Some of quick menu features may not be supported in particular file types, such as EPUB or PDF, especially protected. BOOKMARK MANAGING To create a bookmark, press and hold in the centre of the display. The quick menu will appear. Select ‘Create bookmark’. To view bookmarks, open the main operation menu and select the ‘Bookmark’ icon. Select desired bookmark in the displayed list.
28 NOTES MANAGING From time to time you may find it useful to save a selected fragment to a separate notepad. To create a new note in the reading mode, bring up the Quick Menu by pressing the "Menu" button and clicking on the "Note" icon. If a text format book is open, the notepad will show the editable page text for saving. You can add comments to the text or delete any unnecessary fragments, using the on-screen keyboard, before saving the note for further reference and usage. If a graphic format book is open, the notepad will show a screenshot of the page fragment being viewed. Using drawing tools, you can make notes on a page screenshot and save it as an image for further reference and usage. SWITCHING TO STRUCTURED TABLE OF CONTENTS The contents displays the names of chapters and sections of the book. To go to a selected chapter, press its name with your finger. Contents can have hierarchical structure of chapters, sections and parts. Sections with hidden parts of the structure are designated by arrows. To expand a hidden branch, click the arrow.
29 DICTIONARY Touch the word you want to translate in a page with your finger or enter it using the on-screen keyboard. Press 'Enter Word' button to type a word for translation in the textbox by yourself. SEARCH To find the desired words or parts of words in the text quickly, click the search button in the shortcut menu. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter the text to search for and click "Search". Search results will be highlighted in color. The control panel search results appear at the bottom of the screen. Use the arrows to navigate through the pages of search results. TEXT TO SPEECH The Text-to-speech function or TTS is used to transform text information into speaker voice sounds. To enable the text-to-speech function, do the following: Press and hold on the screen until the menu will appear, and select ‘Text to speech’.
30 The TTS control menu will be displayed at the bottom of the opened book. Highlight a sentence in the text for playback.  Press "Play" to start speech reproduction  Use the fast forward and rewind buttons to select further sentences for playback  Use the volume controls to adjust playback volume
31 To select the playback language, press the tongue icon on the left of the TTS control panel. Select the desired playback language from the list of available ones.
32 Note Some of the text-to-speech mode settings are available in the "Settings" section Note The Text-to-Speech function becomes accessible for an opened book only after page calculation. Note The currently reproduced sentence text is highlighted. Pages of the book reproduced by voice are flipped automatically. BOOK INFO To view book info open the quick menu by pressing and holding the or your finger in the centre of the display. From the displayed list select ‘View info’ option. Information on the book is displayed, such as title, author, cover page, full path, and file size.
33 NIGHT READING Turns the night reading mode on/off. In this mode, book will be displayed as white text on a dark background. This will decrease scattered light from the device. CONFIGURATION To open the Settings menu in reading mode, go to the extended option menu 'More' and select the 'Settings' option. Here you can configure:  Panel menu lock – locks/unlocks the main operation menu in current status (opened/ hidden), overcoming the accelerometer  Full screen – turns full screen viewing mode on/off (hides menu panel)  Volume key scrolling – activates/deactivates buttons ‘+’ and ‘-’ used for paging while reading;  Font size –selects font size. Closing the book To close a book press ‘Return’ or 'Home' button.
34 Dictionary Allows you to translate a word, selected in read mode or entered from keyboard, using available dictionaries. After launching the application, the onscreen keyboard will appear (see the ‘Using onscreen keyboard’ section for detailed information on how to use the keyboard). Type in the required word and the application will find the translation. You can turn pages of the dictionary. If you have several dictionaries on your PocketBook A10, you can switch between dictionaries. Dictionary installation/uninstallation To install dictionary, perform the following: 1. Copy dictionary file on the device 2. Open File Manager 3. Find dictionary file on the device 4. Launch file and confirm dictionary installation. To remove dictionary, open section Settings > Applications > Manage packages. Select package to remove and confirm uninstallation.
35 Office Applications  Notes – application for creation/edition text and graphic notes  Calendar  Alarm clock – supports several alarms depending on day of the week. After setup, alarm icon will be displayed in status bar  Calculator – supports several engineering functions. To use additional functions, press ‘Menu’ button and select ‘Additional panel’ Multimedia Content Management  Gallery – application for image viewing. Also, this program supports next features: crop image, set as wallpaper, send by email and delete.  Music – application for playing music. Program supports playlists creation and grouping tracks by artists and albums  Video – application for playing video. Next video formats are supported recently: 3GP (codecs H.263, MPEG-4 SP), MP4 (codecs H.263, MPEG-4 SP, H.264 AVC (Baseline Profile (BP)).
36 FM Radio To listen to FM Radio you need to plug headset, which will operate as antenna. To set channel, you can move a slider across the screen or use playback control buttons. You can save up to ten channels. To save channel, just touch a button with number of preconfigured channel. If you need to clear or change frequency, touch button continuously and select required action from context menu. In Settings section you can configure next parameters:  Audio Mode – auto, stereo, mono or switch mode  Audio Path – selects audio output device : headset, speaker or none  RDS Modes – toggles Radio Data System : displays information, related to radio translation. This info is transmitted by radio station  Enable AF – alternative frequencies. This allows a receiver to re-tune to a different frequency providing the same station when the first signal becomes too weak (e.g., when moving out of range). This can be useful, for example, while moving in car Advanced settings  World Region  Scan Step

38 o Page info o Downloads o Settings Note Downloads are possible if external SD card inserted. BOOKMARKS This section consists of 3 tabs:  Bookmarks – list of bookmarked web-pages. Quick menu allows to add current page to bookmarks, and toggle between thumbnail and list view mode  Most visited  History – quick menu allows to clear history. Also you can add page to bookmarks by clicking on star icon on the right side from web-page title in Most visited and History sections. Depending on tab, next operations with page are available in context menu:  Open  Open in new window  Add bookmark  Change bookmark  Add shortcut to Home

41 Standard email application. At the first time, you will be suggested to enter your account information and set up incoming server settings. These settings should be provided by your email service. Note Incoming server settings for Gmail are preconfigured. Email client supports several accounts. Account settings:  Account name  Your name – will be displayed in field ‘From’  Email check frequency  Default account – sets selected account as default  Email notification  Select ringtone  Vibrate  Incoming/Outgoing server settings File Manager Initially application has 3 tabs, displaying files and folders: Home, sdcard. To open folder or file, just tap its
42 icon. To go up one level, press ‘..’ string or press ‘Return’ button . Context menu has next options:  Open in new tab (for folders)  Move  Copy – in each folder ‘Copy here’ button will be displayed  Rename  Delete  Open with proper application, depending on file type (e.g. Reader for books, Gallery for images etc.) On the top located quick launch buttons:  Favorites  Home  Up to one level  Create folder  Copy  Search You can select several files or folders by checking checkboxes on a left from file/folder name and press Copy

44 Google Services Next client applications for Google services are pre-installed on the device:  Android Market – official Android application store, where you can purchase and download various applications for your device (many of them are free)  Google Search  Google Maps – client application for Google Maps service.  Gmail – email client, preconfigured for Gmail  Google Talk – instant messaging from Google  YouTube – application for watching YouTube videos  Latitude – shares your and tracking your friends location, based on IP-address  Google Calendar  Google Contacts. These applications require Internet connection.
45 Settings To access Settings, select icon in Home screen quick menu or in application panel. In this section:  Set the interface language and font  Activate and deactivate internal functions of the device  Customize the power saving mode  Manage the services and installed programs  Browse the device, memory and operating system status and set the current time and date. Wireless & networks  Airplane mode – This option disables all wireless connections  Wi-Fi – start scanning for Wi-Fi networks  Wi-Fi settings o Wi-Fi enable/disable o Network notification – notify on open network found o Add Wi-Fi network. By checking the 'Network Notification' option you can make your device scan the air for available Wi-Fi access points. Your device will offer you a list of available networks.
46 If the 'Network Notification' option is disabled, you can scan the air by calling up the quick access menu in 'Wi-Fi Settings' and pressing the 'Search' button. You can scan available Wi-Fi networks by bringing up the context menu and selecting ‘Scan’. To configure additional parameters, bring up quick menu and select ‘Advanced’. Shows MAC address of the device. o IP address o Use static IP – allows to configure network settings manually. 53 Firmware Update To update firmware, download new firmware from PocketBook website. Go to ‘Support’ section and select ‘PocketBook A10’ model. Select last version from ‘Firmware’ section. Download firmware package and save it to microSD card. Then you can update firmware in two ways. UPDATING FIRMWARE FROM OPERATING SYSTEM (RECOMMENDED) 1. Go to Settings > About device > Additional system updates > External microSD card 2. In the list appeared, select firmware package you want to install and press ‘Yes’ 3.
