The MX-810i achieves a magnificent combina-tion of power and flexibility, simplifying and automating operation of even themost complex system.User Configurable Screen and Button LightingAbuilt in pick up sensor can be set to light the screen and/or the buttonsautomatically. Additionally, a dedicated LIGHT button enables the user tobacklight the buttons if the pick up sensor is turned off. Integrated Sound SignalingThe MX-810i incorporates a small speaker for beeps. Anytime you press abutton, the MX-810i signals that it has understood your command with abeep sound.Custom Labeled Buttons When you pick up the MX-810i, it automatically lights up the color LCDscreen which labels the six buttons to either side of the screeen. Thesebutton labels change based on what you are watching or listening to.Thus, if you have selected Watch TV, you will see a list of buttons thatare useful to that activity, while if you select Watch DVD, the buttonswill control the DVD.LIGHT ButtonPress the Light button on theside of the MX-810i to back-light all of the buttons. Ofcourse, you could opt to setthe buttons to light automati-cally via the pick up sensor. Optional RF “No Rules” OperationIn combination with a Complete Control RF Base Station, the MX-810i cancontrol your system without being in line-of-sight of the equipment. Either the MRF-350i or the MRF-260i RF base station is compatible with theMX-810i. Both incorporate RF Addressing. RF Addressing gives you the abili-ty to control equipment locations throughout your home, even if they areconcealed in other rooms or are behind closed doors.3. The MRF-350i’s built-in Front Blaster sends commands tocomponents in the same cabinet space as the MRF-350i.1. The MX-810i sends radio wavesin every direction, so you don’thave to point the remote any-more! 4. Self-adhesive “Flashers” affix to theInfrared sensors on the front panels of yourcomponents. The Flashers relay commandsto components out of sight of the MRF-350i’sFront Blaster. The flashers plug in to theMRF-350i’s rear flasher line outputs via their10 foot cables. Uniquely, the MRF-350i canalso connect to components with rear panelIR Inputs via its adjustable IR Line Outputs.2.The RFX-250i RF Sensor can be freelypositioned for optimal reception.
MX-810i OWNERS MANUAL MX-810i OWNERS MANUALPage 3 Page 4Installing and Charging the BatteryOpen the battery cover by pressingon the release clip and removingthe cover.Note that the three contacts on thebattery must connect to the threespring-loaded contacts in the MX-810i. Angle the battery into the bat-tery compartment, contacts first,then gently fit the rear of the batteryinto the compartment as well.Replace the battery cover by insert-ing the hinged end in first, thensnapping the cover back into place.You can charge the Lithium Ion bat-tery by simply plugging the includ-ed charger into the base of theremote as shown here.The MX-810i can be used whilecharging.Programming the MX-810iThe MX-810i is programmed via a Windows PC equipped with a USB port(programming cable included), using our proprietary software, MX-810iSetup. You can download this software from our website:www.universalremote.comBasic setup takes only a few minutes with this software. However, to fullyautomate an audio/video system the programmer must have a detailedknowledge of each component and how the system is connected andoperated. We highly recommend that you use a professional audio/videoinstaller to program your MX-810i so you will be able to enjoy all thebenefits of the MX-810i as well as one touch operation via Activities. If you do opt to do some programming on your own, fill out the NOTES atthe end of this manual before beginning. This will greatly speed theprocess of programming.
MX-810i OWNERS MANUAL MX-810i OWNERS MANUALUsing the MX-810i to Manually Control a “Device”Press the MX-810i’s DEVICESbutton to display all the devicesyou can control with your MX-810i. Your MX-810i can control up to24 devices. If you have morethan six devices, press either ofthe page buttons to display theother devices in your system.When you find the device youwant to control, press the corre-sponding button beside thescreen. For example, if you press theSony VCR button on the screenshown here, the MX-810i willbecome a Sony VCR remotecontrol.The MX-810i now displays the device you select-ed at the top of the screen. Below the title, theLCD displays the customized names of anyspecial features you need for the device. All the hard buttons of the MX-810ihave now changed their func-tions to operate your device.Page 5Using the MX-810i to Automate an “Activity”You select Activities in the same way that you select Devices. Simply pressthe MX-810i’s ACTIVITIES button to display all the Activities you can auto-mate with your MX-810i.However, whenyou select an activi-ty, the MX-810i isgoing to automati-cally reconfigureyour entire AudioVideo system.For example, if you press WatchDVD, a whole sequence of eventshappens:Status MessageWhile the MX-810i is reconfiguring your AV system, a status message on the MX-810i lets youknow that it is busy. This reconfiguration of your sys-tem can take ten to twenty seconds on some systems.When the Status message disappears, all of theMX-810i’s buttons and screens are optimized forthe activity you selected.The Volume and Mute buttons control the sound you hear.The rest of the buttons on the remote have newfunctions, so that the functions you need most frequently are immediately available.1. The TV turns ON.2. The Audio system turns ON.3. The DVD player turns ON.4. The TV changes to the DVDinput.5. The AUDIO system changes to theDVD input.6. The DVD player begins to PLAY.Page 6
MX-810i OWNERS MANUAL MX-810i OWNERS MANUALUsing the Help System for Automated ActivitiesAfter selecting an activity, if any of the devices or components don’t seem tobe on or are set incorrectly, use the Help button. There may be several helpscreens to help you with your activity as shown here:At the same time, press andhold both the ACTIVITIESbutton and the ENTER but-ton. When the SETUP screenappears, you can release thetwo buttons.Once the help screens appear, look at your system. If anything is off, use the buttons on the first screen topower them on, then press NEXT (the PAGE button). The second and third screens enable you to correct aninput. Additional screens may appear if your system is custom. Exit help by pressing the HELP button again.Accessing the MX-810i’s Setup MenusThe MX-810i has internal setup menus that enable you to change the settingsthat control your color screen, the button lighting, battery warnings and theclock. To access these settings, you must press and hold two buttons at the same time as shown here:Selecting from the Setup MenusThere are two pages of settings on the Setup Menu. Use the page buttons toview them. To select, simply press the corresponding button.Setting the Color ScreenAlthough usage of the color screen will affect how frequently you have tocharge the battery, the screen does not drain the battery as quickly as thebutton lighting does.Select the setting you’d like to adjust by pressing thebutton beside the screen.Use the Page button to see other pages.Exit the Setup Menus by pressing the Activities orDevices button, or simply waiting (the setup menustime out in 30 seconds).Adjust the brightness of the screen to taste. In mostlighting conditions, 50% gives good results.The Pick Up sensor senses motion, so it will keepthe screen on (and drain your battery charge) aslong as you are holding it in your hand. If you turnoff the Pick Up sensor you will extend battery life(the screen will still light up when you press anybutton).Adjust how long the screen stays lit after you put itdown or stop using it here.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Setting BrightnessUse the buttons next to DIM and BRIGHT to adjust the brightness. You’llsee the screen dim and brighten. When you have the right setting, pressSAVE. Pressing Cancel discards all changes.Use the DIM and BRIGHT buttons to adjust thelighting of the color screen.Page 8Page 7

If you say NO, the screenwill light when you press any button.Setting the Screen Auto Turn OffUse the buttons next to LESS and MORE to adjust the amount of time thescreen will stay lit when you stop moving it (Pick Up Sensor ON) or whenyou stop pressing buttons (Pick Up Sensor OFF).Setting the Button LightingNote that button backlighting uses more battery charge than the screen.So if you would like to extend the time between charges, lower the usageof button lighting.Setting Button Lighting Automatic OnUse the buttons next to YES and NO. If you say YES, the buttons will lightwhenever the LCD screen is on. If you say NO, the buttons will only lightwhen you press the LIGHT button.Setting the Button Lighting Auto Turn OffUse the buttons next to LESS and MORE to adjust the amount of time thebuttons will stay lit after you stop pressing buttons.If you turn off Automatic On you will extend batterylife (the buttons will still light up when you press thelight button).The buttons will stay lit for so many seconds afteryou stop pressing buttons. Adjust to your preferenceby pressing this button.Select Power Remaining to check your powerremaining or to set a new battery warning level.To view the system info, press here.Use the YES and NO buttons to set the Pick Up sen-sor.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Use the LESS and MORE buttons to set the Auto TurnOff timing.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Use the YES and NO buttons to set the button backlighting to automatically turn on or not.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Use the LESS and MORE buttons to set the Auto TurnOff timing.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Page 10Page 9System MenuWhile you are using the MX-810i you can get a more accurate reading ofthe exact power remaining by checking the System Menu. Additionally,the System Info page offers a look at how much memory you have used.
MX-810i OWNERS MANUAL MX-810i OWNERS MANUALPage 11 Page 12Date and Time MenusVia the three menus for Date and Time you can set the date, set the timeand opt to display either the date or the time.Setting TimeTap the button beside hour or minutes then use the number keys to enterthe correct time. Set the AM/PM by toggling the button. When the time iscorrect, press the SAVE button.Setting DateTap the button beside day, month or year then use the number keys toenter the correct date. When the date is correct, press the SAVE button.Setting Display for Time or DateThe MX-810i can display either the time or the date, not both. Select whatyou would like to be displayed and press SAVE.Select either Time or Date display.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Select the field you’d like to change, then use theNumber buttons on the MX-810i to enter the year,the month and the day.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Select the field you’d like to change, then use theNumber buttons on the MX-810i to enter hours orminutes.Press this button to change AM to PM or PM to AM.Each press changes the setting. When it is correct,press SAVE.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Power Remaining and Battery Warning SettingsOn this screen, you can see how much battery charge remains and youcan reset the “Low Battery” warning to either 10, 20 or 30 percent. Thebattery indicator at the top left of the MX-810i screen will flash whenyour low battery warning level is reached.System InfoSee how much memory you’ve used on this screen. Setting the Button Beep VolumeUse the buttons next to OFF and LOUDEST to adjust how loud the beepsare. You cannot make any changes to the data displayedon this screen. It is informational only.Press the OK button to exit.Use the OFF and LOUDEST buttons to set the Beepvolume. Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Use the LESS and MORE buttons to set the batterywarning.Press the SAVE button to save your setting.Note the current remaining battery charge here.

USA Limited Warranty StatementYour Universal Remote Control, when delivered to you in new condition, is warrantedagainst defects in materials or workmanship as follows: UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL,INC. warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship for a period of one(1) year and as set forth below.
