Page 1MX-450 OWNERS MANUALCongratulations!You’ve purchased a unique synthesis of hardware and software engineering,the Complete Control MX-450. The MX-450 achieves a magnificent combina-tion of power and flexibility, simplifying and automating operation of even themost complex system.User Configurable Screen and Button LightingA built in pick up sensor can be set to light the screen and/or the buttonsautomatically. Additionally, a dedicated LIGHT button enables the user tobacklight the buttons if the pick up sensor is turned off. Fast Professional SetupThe MX-450 sets up quickly via on screen setup. Your installer simplyconfigures the remote for you using the MX-450 and his/her intimateknowledge of how your system is configured and operated to completelyautomate all operation and replace all of your remote controls with theMX-450.Backlit Color LCD Screen Buttons When you pick up the MX-450, it automatically lights up the color LCDscreen which labels the six buttons to either side of the screeen. Thesebutton labels change based on what you are watching or listening to.Thus, if you have selected Watch TV, you will see a list of buttons thatare useful to that activity, while if you select Watch DVD, the buttonswill control the DVD.LIGHT ButtonPress the Light button on theside of the MX-450 to back-light all of the buttons.
Page 2MX-450 OWNERS MANUALOptional RF “No Rules” OperationIn combination with a Complete Control RF Base Station, the MX-450 cancontrol your system without being in line-of-sight of the equipment. To preserve good operation always utilize a Narrow Band RF Base Stationwith RF Addressing. RF Addressing gives you the ability to control equip-ment locations throughout your home, even if they are concealed in otherrooms or are behind closed doors.4. Self-adhesive “Flashers” affix to the Infraredsensors on the front panels of your compo-nents.  The Flashers relay commands to com-ponents out of sight of the MRF-350’s FrontBlaster.  The flashers plug in to the MRF-350’srear flasher line outputs via their 10 footcables. Uniquely, the MRF-350 can also con-nect to components with rear panel IR Inputsvia its adjustable IR Line Outputs.3. The MRF-350’s built-in Front Blaster sends commands tocomponents in the same cabinet space as the MRF-350.1. The MX-450 sends radiowaves in every direction, so youdon’t have to point the remoteanymore! 2. The RFX-250 RF Sensor can be freelypositioned for optimal reception.
Page 3MX-450 OWNERS MANUALReplacing the BatteriesOpen the battery cover by pressing the release and pulling back the coveron the back of the control. Remove the cover.Observe the + and - polarity indications inside the battery compartment.Place the four AA batteries into their positions in the battery compartmentobserving the + and - polarity indicators on the batteries. Now, replace the battery cover by inserting the hinged end in first, thensnapping the cover back into place.
Page 4MX-450 OWNERS MANUALProgramming the MX-450The MX-450 is programmed via on screen setup menus. Simply press andhold the MAIN button for 3 seconds to view the menus.However, to fully automate an audio/video system the programmer musthave a detailed knowledge of each component and how the system isconnected and operated. We highly recommend that you use a profes-sional audio/video installer to program your MX-450 so you will be ableto enjoy all the benefits of the MX-450.
Page 5MX-450 OWNERS MANUALSelecting a New “Activity”The MX-450’s MAIN button displays the activities you can control withyour MX-450. When you want to watch something else (a DVD movie, avideotape or an HDTV broadcast), simply press the MAIN button andselect the new activity. Your installer will have programmed the button you pressed to totally con-figure your system to watch or listen to whatever you selected. Now, thescreen will change, and all of the LCD buttons will be reconfigured togive you full control of your system while watching or listening to yourselection!Press either of the PAGE buttons to see any other available choices. When you press the MAINbutton, you can see the mostfrequently used activities youhave for listening in your sys-tem. PAGE DISPLAYAt the bottom of the LCD screen, thepage display informs you if there areother pages of buttons available.
Page 6MX-450 OWNERS MANUALUsing the MX-450 to Control an “Activity”Once you’ve selected a new activity, the MX-450 displays the title of theactivity at the top of the screen. Below the title, the LCD displays the cus-tomized names of any special features you need for the activity. All thehard buttons of the MX-450 have now changed to functions optimized forthis activity.The Title displayswhat activity youcan control.The Volume andMute buttons alwayscontrol the soundregardless of whatscreen is displayed.Press either of thePAGE buttons tosee any other avail-able choices. The transport buttons(Play, Stop, Skip-, Skip+,FF, REW and Pause)operate when the select-ed activity requires them(for example, if youwatch CABLETV with aTiVo type of DVR, thesebuttons will control thebuilt-in DVR, while ifyou are watching aDVD, these buttons willcontrol the DVD player).The 4 way cursorbuttons enable youto navigate onscreen guides andmenus with ease.The Channel andPrevious Channelbuttons will changechannels when youhave selected anactivity like WatchCABLETV or Watch SAT TV .The Number keypadwill enter numbersfor the activity you’veselected. Thus, forwatching Cable TV,you use the numberkeypad to enter chan-nel numbers, whilewhen listening to CD,the  number keypadenters track numbers.The LCD buttonlabels describe special featuresfor this activity.

Universal Remote Control will, at its sole option, repair theproduct using new or comparable rebuilt parts, or exchange the product for a comparablenew or rebuilt product.
