4POWER-CORD PROTECTIONPower-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placedupon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the pointwhere they exit from the appliance.LIGHTNINGTo protect your unit from a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the unitdue to lightning and power line surges.POWER LINESAn outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light orpower circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system,extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits, as contact with them might befatal.OVERLOADINGDo not overload wall outlets and extension cords, as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRYDo not push objects through any openings in this unit as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short outparts that could result in fire or electric shock. Never spill or spray any type of liquid into the unit.OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDINGIf an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the unit, be sure the antenna or cable system is groundedso as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. 8WHAT IS MOISTURE CONDENSATION?MOISTURE WILL CONDENSE ON THE UNIT IN THE FOLLOWING CASES;WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE THE ABOVE CONDITIONS,When a cold liquid is poured into a glass, for example, water vapor in the air will condense on the surface of theglass. Use in ahorizontal (flat) position only.Avoid extreme moisture and dust.Do not insert fingers or any other objects into thecassette loading slot. Do not spray cleaner or waxdirectly on the VCR or use forced air to remove dust.The ventilation holes prevent overheating. Do notblock or cover these holes. Especially avoid coveringthe holes with soft materials such as cloth or paper.When you finish operating the VCR, always unloadthe cassette and turn off the power.Keep the VCR away from flower vases, sinks, etc.If liquids should be spilled into the VCR, seriousdamage will result. If you spill any liquids into theVCR, unplug the AC power cord immediately andconsult qualified service personnel before attemptingto use the VCR again.To protect the VCR from a lightning storm, unplugthe AC power cord from the wall outlet anddisconnect the antenna.TO USE AC POWER SOURCEUse the AC polarized line cord provided for operation on AC. 14COMBINATION VHF/UHF ANTENNA WITH 75 OHM COAXIAL CABLECOMBINATION VHF/UHF ANTENNA WITH 300 OHM TWIN LEAD (FLAT) WIRESEPARATE VHF AND UHF ANTENNASVHF31A clear picture will not be obtained by the VCR unless the antenna signal is good. Connect the antenna tothe VCR properly.For better quality recording, an indoor antenna or a telescopic antenna is not recommended. The use of anoutdoor type antenna is required.If you are not sure about the connection, please refer to qualified service personnel.•••If you are using an antenna system, follow the instructions on pages 14-17. If you are a cable (CATV) subscriber,skip ahead to page 18 for the proper connections.ANTENNA TO VCR CONNECTIONThe VCR must be connected "between" the antenna and the TV. First, disconnect the antenna from the TV and connectit to the VCR. Then connect the VCR to the TV. Below are 3 common methods of connecting an antenna system to aVCR. Find the type of antenna system you are using and follow the connection diagram. In the unlikelyevent that the heads become dirty enough to be clogged, no picture will be played back. This can easily bedetermined if, during playback of a known good tape, there is good sound, but no picture (picture is extremelysnowy). If this is the case, have the video cassette recorder checked by qualified service personnel.Video heads may eventually wear out and should be replaced when they fail to produce clear pictures.To help prevent video head clogging, use only good quality VHS tapes.
