Getting StartedEnglish2Powering Up the RadioPress the On/Off Button briefly. Identifying Radio ControlsEnglish4Programmable ButtonsYour dealer can program the programmable buttons as shortcuts to radio functions or preset channels/groups depending on the duration of a button press:•Press –Pressing and releasing rapidly.•Long press –Pressing and holding for the programmed duration (between 0.25 seconds and 3.75 seconds).•Hold down –Keeping the button pressed.Assignable Radio FunctionsContacts –Provides direct access to the Contacts list.Emergency –Depending on the programming, initiates or cancels an emergency alarm or call.Ext PA On/Off –Toggles the audio routing between the connected public address (PA) loudspeaker amplifier and the radio’s internal public address (PA) system.Manual Dial  –Initiates a call by keying in any subscriber ID. Only available with a keypad microphone.Nuisance Channel Delete –Temporarily removes an unwanted channel, except for the Selected Channel, from the scan list. The Selected Channel refers to the user’s selected zone/channel combination from which scan is initiated.One Touch Call –Directly initiates a predefined Group or Private Call, a Call Alert or a Quick Text message.Option Board Feature –Toggles option board features on or off for option board-enabled channels. PA On/Off –Toggles the radio’s internal public address (PA) system on or off.Permanent Monitor –Monitors a selected channel for all radio traffic until function is disabled.Privacy –Toggles privacy on or off.Radio Check –Determines if a radio is active in a system.Radio Enable –Allows a target radio to be remotely enabled.Radio Disable –Allows a target radio to be remotely disabled.
Identifying Radio ControlsEnglish5Remote Monitor  –Turns on the microphone of a target radio without it giving any indicators.Repeater/Talkaround –Toggles between using a repeater and communicating directly with another radio.Scan –Toggles scan on or off.Telemetry Control –Controls the Output Pin on a local or remote radio.Text Message –Selects the text message menu.Zone –Allows selection from a list of zones.Assignable Settings/Utility FunctionsAll Tones/Alerts –Toggles all tones on or off.Backlight –Controls the backlight intensity.Horns/Lights –Toggles horns and lights feature on or off.Power Level –Toggles transmit power level between high and low.Squelch –Toggles squelch level between normal and tight. Accessing the Programmed FunctionsYou can access various radio functions through one of the following ways:•A short or long press of the relevant programmable buttons.OR•Use the Menu Navigation Buttons as follows:1To access the menu, press the S button. Press the appropriate Menu Scroll button (Por Q) to access the menu functions.2To select a function or enter a sub-menu, press the Nbutton.3To go back one menu level, or to return to the previous screen, press the R button. Long press the R button to return to the Home screen.The Menu Navigation Buttons are also available on a keypad microphone (see Using the Keypad on page 53).NOTE: Your radio automatically exits the menu after a period of inactivity and returns to your Home screen.
Identifying Radio ControlsEnglish6Push-To-Talk (PTT) ButtonThe PTT button on the side of the microphone serves two basic purposes:•While a call is in progress, the PTT button allows the radio to transmit to other radios in the call.Press and hold down PTTbutton to talk. Release the PTT button to listen.The microphone is activated when the PTT button is pressed.•While a call is not in progress, the PTT button is used to make a new call (see Making a Radio Call on page 14).If the Talk Permit Tone is enabled (see Turning the Talk Permit Tone On or Off on page 50), wait until the short alert tone ends before talking.During a call, if the Channel Free Indication feature is enabled on your radio (programmed by your dealer), you will hear a short alert tone the moment the target radio (the radio that is receiving your call) releases the PTT button, indicating the channel is free for you to respond.You will also hear the Channel Free Indication tone if your call is interrupted, for example when the radio receives an Emergency Call.You can turn off the Channel Free Indication tone by disabling all radio tones and alerts (see Turning Radio Tones/Alerts On or Off on page 50).Switching Between Analog and Digital ModeEach channel in your radio can be configured as an analog channel or a digital channel. Use the Channel Rocker to switch between an analog or a digital channel.When switching from digital to analog mode, certain features are unavailable. Icons for the digital features (such as Messages) reflect this change by appearing “grayed out’. Disabled features are hidden in the menu.Your radio also has features available in both analog and digital mode. However, the minor differences in the way each feature works does NOT affect the performance of your radio.NOTE: Your radio also switches between digital and analog modes during a dual mode scan (see Scan on page 23). This icon is only displayed while receiving.MonitorSelected channel is being monitored.Power LevelRadio is set at Low power.Radio is set at High power.orTones DisableTones are turned off.Option BoardThe Option Board is enabled.Option Board Non-FunctionThe Option Board is disabled.GPS Available The GPS feature is enabled. The icon stays lit when a position fix is available.GPS Not Available/Out of Range The GPS feature is enabled but is not receiving data from the satellite.ScanScan feature is activated. Priority ScanRadio detects activity on channel/group designated as Priority 1 (if • is blinking) or Priority 2 (if • is steady).Unread Message User has unread message(s) in the Inbox.Inbox Full User’s Inbox is full.

In the Contacts list, it indicates a subscriber alias (name) or ID (number).Group Call/All CallIndicates a Group Call or All Call in progress. The yellow LED blinks and you see the scan icon on the display.During a dual mode scan, if you are on a digital channel, and your radio locks onto an analog channel, it automatically switches from digital mode to analog mode for the duration of the call. This is also true for the reverse.There are two ways of initiating scan: •Main Channel Scan (Manual): Your radio scans all the channels/groups in your scan list. On entering scan, your radio may – depending on the settings – automatically start on the last scanned “active” channel/group or on the channel where scan was initiated.•Auto Scan (Automatic): Your radio automatically starts scanning when you select a channel/group that has Auto Scan enabled.Starting and Stopping ScanProcedure:Press the programmed Scan button to start or stop Scan. The radio stays on that channel for a programmed time period known as “hang time”. Procedure: 1If the Channel Free Indication feature is enabled, you will hear a short alert tone the moment the transmitting radio releases the PTT button, indicating the channel is free for you to respond. Press the PTT button during hang time. Contacts SettingsContacts provides “address-book” capabilities on your radio. Each entry corresponds to an alias or ID that you use to initiate a call. Additionally, each entry, depending on context, associates with one of five types of calls: Group Call, Private Call, All Call, PC Call or Dispatch Call.PC Call and Dispatch Call are data-related. They are only available with the applications. Refer to the data applications documentation for further details.NOTE: If the Privacy feature is enabled on a channel, you can make privacy-enabled Group Call, Private Call, and All Call on that channel.
