- 1 -ID20 Industrial Door ActivatorID20 Industrial Door ActivatorINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSSection 1General DescriptionThe Model ID20 is a motion sensor/vehicledetector designed to trigger the operation of anautomatic industrial door. The main differencebetween the ID20 and other motion sensors is thatthe ID20 will respond to motion moving in only onedirection. The ID20 generates a very low powermicrowave beam aimed to cover the same areanormally covered by one or more loop detectorsystems. It is less expensive to install and lesssusceptible to damage and malfunction from ice, salt and heavy vehicular traffic. The ID20 has an approximate pattern size of 18.5feet wide at 60 feet long from the unit. The patternis adjustable by turning the range potentiometermounted on the PC board (see pattern drawing—Figure # 2).The ID20 operates on much the same principlethat police radar uses. These units transmit a lowpower microwave signal, some of which isreflected by a moving target, such as a forklift ortruck. This received signal goes through a Dopplershift, a slightly different frequency than wastransmitted. Larger vehicles, such as semi-trucks,reflect more energy than automobiles and can bedetected at further distances. Since the ID20 usesmicrowave signals as its means of detecting amoving target, it is not affected by air motion, temperature and humidity changes, or highfrequency sounds.Section 2InstallationThe ID20 vehicle sensor can be mounted for side-fire or overhead detection. The typical mountingheight is 12 to 18 feet. The sensor is mountedwith 2 lag bolts through 2 - ½” prepunchedmounting holes. To remove the fastening bracketfrom the sensor, take out the ¼-20 bolt holding thebracket to the hinge. Using the bracket as atemplate for locating screw holes, drill the pole orband the bracket and refasten the sensor to thebracket with the ¼-20 bolt removed earlier.Wiring - (see wiring diagram—Figure #1)Operating voltage is 12 to 24V AC or DC and isusually supplied through a transformer. Currentconsumption of the unit is 0.075 Amps @ 24VDCNOTE: Transformer is included.Remove four (4) hex head, self tapping machinescrews, two on each end of the sensor, allowingthe enclosure cover to be lifted off, exposingthe terminal strip. When wiring the ID20, applypower to terminals 1 and 2. The relay contacts onterminals 4 and 5 are normally open (N.C.) andterminals 5 and 6 are normally closed (N.O.).NOTE: When power is applied, allow 30 secondsof warm-up before testing the sensor.MS Sedco suggests the use of 4 conductorcable, 18 to 22 gauge conductor size, 3/16” to5/16” cable O.D.If 22 gauge wire is used to connect the ID20, addthe following:1. Install a 24V, 40VA transformer, insteadof the 12V, 10VA transformer that isfurnished, for long wire runs (300 feetor more).2. Seal the wire fitting with sealant. Thisconnector is designed for wire with ajacket between 3/16” and 5/16” OD tomake a good fit in the power gripconnector.3. No wire larger than 18 gauge can beused. The terminal block is not largeenough to accept wire larger than this.AlignmentAlign the ID20 motion by adjusting the rangepotentiometer and the aiming angle. The rangepotentiometer allows the detection pattern to beexpanded or contracted to cover the traffic lane. The hinge adjustment allows the sensor detectionpattern to be aimed toward the desired detectionzone. To adjust the sensor’s head angle, loosen the 8-32lock screw and the ¼-20 hinge screw. This allowsvertical movement of the ID20 motion sensor.
- 2 -When the pattern adjustment is completed, ensurethat all bolts and screws are tightened.OperationAn LED is located on the main circuit board andprovides a visual indication as to how the unit isoperating. The wiring and adjustmentspecifications (Figure 1) show the location of thisLED indicator. The LED will illuminate when therelay has changed state in response to motion.Section 3System Inspection and Instructions*****EXTREMELY IMPORTANT*****After final set-up, test the unit(s) completely to besure that it is functioning properly, as specified inthis manual. After the installation and operational check of thesystem:1. Instruct the owner of door system operationand how to test it. This should be checked ona daily basis.2. Instruct the owner on what to do if the door orany of its components become damaged.3. Strongly recommend to the owner that thecomplete entry be inspected twice a year aspart of the service agreement.Note: The manufacturer is not responsiblefor any radio or TV interference caused byunauthorized modifications to thisequipment. Such modifications could voidthe user’s authority to operate theequipment.Section 4Technical DataModel..............................
