IINNOVATEC C & I METER INSTALLATIONThe Innovatec C & I Meter provides the link between Innovatec IMUs and the utilitycomputer system by transferring messages between the local area network (LAN) and thewide area network (WAN). A microcontroller controls communication between the LANtransceiver and the telephone Pager inside the Meter. LAN communications is via theInnovatec 900 MHz spread spectrum radio transceiver. Meters are housed in weather resistant enclosure, and are typically mounted on utilitypoles or other elevated structures. They are powered using 120 or 240 VAC 60 Hz linevoltage, typically tapped from a streetlight photocell socket.Installation InstructionsNote: Installation of the Innovatec C & I Meter is to be performed by properly trainedpersonnel only.Prior to installation determine how the Meter will be powered. If possible select a utilitypole with a streetlight which uses a photocell for control. Determine the voltage that thestreetlight utilizes. The Innovatec Meter must only be connected to 120 volts or 240 voltsAC. Serious damage can result from connecting to a higher voltage.The Innovatec Meter can be mounted to wooden poles with a lag screw through themounting holes on the top and bottom of the enclosure. It may be necessary totemporarily remove the LAN antenna to gain access to the mounting hole. Be sure toreplace the antenna prior to connecting power to the Meter to prevent damage to the LANradio.Note: The Innovatec Meter is designed to operate only with the antenna supplied. Do notsubstitute any other external antenna without consulting Innovatec. Violation of FCCregulations may result if the Meter is operated with any other antenna.To meet the FCC RF Safety Exposure Compliance, verify that both antennas are locatedsuch that a minimum of 25 cm or 10 inch separation is provided between the antennasand all persons.To install the photocell power tap, remove the streetlight photocell, by turningcounterclockwise and lifting up. Install the photocell power tap in the photocell socketand replace the photocell into the socket on top of the photocell power tap. Attach thepower cable securely to the streetlight mounting arm and tot the pole. Coil any excesscable and secure with cable ties. Connect the power cable to the Meter power connector.When power in connected to the Meter the power LED will light. The LAN transmit andreceive lights will blink alternately for about 2 minutes as the software initializes. Whenthe lights stop blinking the Meter is ready for operation. Close the hinged cover andsecure the cover fasteners.
No adjustments to the Meter itself are possible. If the unit to be installed does notcommunicate with the LAN or does not configure properly, inspect the photocell and ACwiring and the telephone wiring. If the problem persists, return the Meter to the MeterShop for evaluation. Do not attempt to repair the Meter.FCC WARNING STATEMENTSNOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for class Bdigital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed toprovide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residentialinstallation. The equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequencyenergy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, maycause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is noguarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If thisequipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception,which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user isencouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the followingmeasures:• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna• Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver.• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that towhich the receiver is connected• Consult the dealer or an experienced Radio/TV technician for help.CAUTION: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the partyresponsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operatethe equipment.
