3 Screen Icons Icon Meaning Indicates the signal strength. The larger the number of bars is, the stronger the signal is. Indicates that there is an incoming call, a call is being set up, or the phone is in conversation. Indicates that the keypad is locked. Indicates that a new message is received. Indicates that the Inbox is full. Indicates that the General profile is activated. Indicates that the Meeting profile is activated. Indicates that the Silent profile is activated. Indicates that the Outdoor profile is activated. Indicates that the Headset profile is activated. Indicates that the Carkit profile is activated. Indicates that an alarm clock is set. Indicates the battery power level. The larger the number of bars is, the more power of the battery is left.
4 Interfaces Your phone provides two interfaces. Interface Function Charger interface It is located at the bottom of your phone. It is used to connect the travel charger. Headset jack It is located at the upper left corner of the phone. It is used to connect the headset.
5 2 Getting Started Installing the Battery ba 1. 2. 3. Installing the UIM Card If the phone is powered on, press and hold for two seconds to power off it. Then, remove the battery. 1. 2. Charging the Battery 1. Connect the travel charger to the charger interface at the bottom of your phone. 2. Connect the charger to an AC power socket. 3. Wait until the phone is fully charged. During the charging, the icon on the upper right corner of the screen is in an animated status. 4. When the animation becomes static, the charging finishes. Disconnect the charger from the AC power socket. 5. Press the gray buttons on both sides of the charger connector to disconnect it from the phone.
6 Caution: z Do not use a damaged battery or charger. z Before using the travel charger, ensure that the battery is installed in your phone. Powering On/Off the Phone Press and hold for two seconds to power on or off the phone. Using the Function Menu 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu). 2. Press the arrow key to select the desired function menu. 3. Press (Select) to display the selected menu. 4. Display the submenu in either of the ways: z Press to select a submenu and then press (Select) to display the selected submenu. z Press the number key corresponding to the serial number of a submenu to display it. 5. To return to the previous menu or quit the function menu, press (Back). To return to the standby mode, press .
7 3 Voice Services Making a Call 1. In the standby mode, enter the phone number. 2. Press to dial this number. 3. To cancel or end the call, press or . Receiving a Call When there is an incoming call, you can press or to answer it, or press to reject it. z If the Any-key Answer function is enabled, you can press any key to answer an incoming call except and . z If the Headset Auto Answer function is enabled and the headset is connected to the phone, the incoming call is answered automatically.  Note: z Set Any-key Answer in the Settings > Call Settings. z Set Headset Auto Answer in the Profiles > Headset > Edit. Operations During a Call Press or to increase the volume, and press or to decrease the volume. During a call, press (Options) for the following options: z Save Number: Save the phone number to the phone book. z Phone Book: Enter the Phone Book menu. z Messages: Enter the Messages menu. z Third Party Call: Call a third party to make a third party call.  Note: The third party call is network dependent. For more information, consult the service provider.
8 4 Text Entry Text Input Mode You can enter English letters and numbers. While entering text, you can change the input mode by pressing . The following table lists the input modes and their indicators. Indicator Text Input Mode eZiEn Smart English ABC English upper case abc English lower case 123 Number input  Note: z Press (Clear) once to delete the letter on the left of the cursor. By pressing and holding (Clear) for about two seconds, you can delete all letters at a time. z While you edit a message, the phone displays the maximum number of characters allowed to enter for the current input mode. Entering English Alphabetical Text Input Alphabetical text input allows you to enter uppercase ("ABC") or lowercase ("abc") English letters. You can press a number key labeled with required letters once to enter the first letter on the key, twice to enter the second letter on the key, and so on. If the letter you want to enter is on the same key as the previous one, you can enter the latter only after the cursor appears again or after you move the cursor to the next space.
9  Notes: z Press repeatedly to choose and enter the commonly used punctuations. z Press + once to enter a space, twice to enter "0", and three times to move the cursor to the next line. z Press to select the desired symbols. Smart English Input In the "eZiEn" input mode, follow these steps to enter English. 1. According to the desired word, press the corresponding number key once, and then the phone will make out candidate words. 2. Press or to select the desired word. 3. Press to confirm your selection. The word is displayed in the input area. Alternatively, press + and confirm your selection and enter a space behind the word.  Notes: z After you enter several letters, the phone can give other letters to make out the candidate words. Press or to select the desired word and press to confirm; or press the number key to enter desired letters. z Press to enter a point. z Press + to enter a space. z Press to select the desired symbol. z In the editing area, you can press to switch the selected characters between upper case and lower case. If no character is selected, press to switch between text input modes. Entering Number You can use either of the following methods to enter numbers: z In the "123" input mode, you can directly press number keys labeled with desired digits. z In the "ABC" or "abc" input mode, you can press the number key repeatedly until the desired digit appears on the screen.
10 z In the "eZiEn" input mode, you can press the number key and then press until the desired digit appears on the screen. Entering Symbols 1. In any input mode, press to display the symbol list. 2. Press to scroll up or down the symbol list. 3. Press the corresponding number key to enter this symbol.
11 5 Writing and Sending Messages Follow these steps to write and send a message: 1. Press (Menu) and select Messages > Write Message. 2. Enter the content. For the information on text input method, see "Text Entry" on P8. You can enter up to 160 characters or 70 Chinese characters. While entering the content, press (Options) for the following operations. z Insert Templates: Insert a common phrase. z Insert Phone Number: Insert a phone number from the phonebook. 3. Press (Options) for the following operations: z Send: Send the message without saving. z Send & Save: Send the message and save it to the outbox if it is sent successfully or save it to the draft if it is sent unsuccessfully. z Save: Save the message to the draft. 4. You can add up to 10 recipients. There are three methods. z Enter phone numbers directly. z Press (Search) and select Search Phone Book to select the phone number of one contact from the phonebook. z Press (Search) and select Search Groups to select phone numbers of a group of contacts. 5. Press (Send) to send a message.
12 6 Phone Book Adding a New Contact The new contact will be saved to the memory in use. 1. Press (Menu) and select Phone Book > Add New. 2. Enter the name, and press (OK). 3. Set other items: z If you save the contact to your phone, you can enter the following information: General Number, Home Number, Office Number, Memo and Group (you need to set at least one number). z If you save the contact to the UIM card, you can only enter General Number. 4. Press (OK) to save the current settings and press to set other items. 5. Press (Save) to save the contact; press (Back) to cancel. Searching for a Contact 1. Press (Menu) and select Phone Book > Search. 2. Enter the name and press (OK). 3. Press to search the contact. 4. Press (View) to view the details and (Options) for any of the following options. z Edit: Modify or view the contact. z Delete: Delete the contact. z Copy To Phone (Copy To UIM): If the contact is saved on the UIM card, copy the contact to the phone memory; If the contact is saved in the phone memory, copy it to the UIM card. z Send Message: Send a message. After selecting the number, press (OK) to edit and send the message.  Note: Directly press (OK) to display the phonebook. Enter the first word of the contact name. Then the contacts whose names begin with the word will be displayed.
13 7 FM Radio There is an embedded radio in the phone. You can listen to the radio by simply inserting the headset. The headset cable is used as the antenna. Cautions: z Use an approved headset only. z Adjust the volume when using the headset. A very high volume may damage your hearing. z The radio performance depends on the signal strength in the area. Switching On/Off the Radio Switching On the Radio 1. Connect the headset to the phone correctly. 2. Press (Menu) and select FM Radio. The phone displays "Radio On!". The radio is switched on and the broadcasting interface is displayed. 3. Select a channel and play the program. Switching Off the Radio 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio. 2. Press (Options) and select Switch Off. 3. Press (Select) to switch off the radio and return to the main screen.  Notes: z The radio is switched off if you disconnect the headset for over two minutes, unless you are answering a call. z If you set the ring tone or adjust the volume while the radio is on, the radio is muted automatically until you finish setting. z When there is an incoming call, the radio is muted automatically until you finish talking. You can answer the call by using the headset or disconnecting the headset. If you disconnect the headset and do not re-connect it in two minutes the radio is switched off.
14 Selecting a Channel When the radio is switched on, z The channel you listened to last time is selected; or if there is no latest channel z The first non-empty channel in the list is selected; or if all channels in the list are empty z The frequency 87.5 MHz is selected by default. In the broadcasting interface of the radio, press to change the channel and press to adjust the volume. You can also change the channel by using the headset button. Setting a Frequency 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio. 2. Press (Options) and select Set Frequency. 3. Enter a frequency, which is from 87.5 MHz to 108.0 MHz. If you enter 3 digits before the decimal, the cursor moves to the right side of the decimal automatically; if you enter 2 digits before the decimal, press to move the cursor to the right side of the decimal. 4. Press (OK) to save the settings and return to the broadcasting interface. Press (Clear) to clear the settings and then return to the main interface of the radio, press to move the cursor to clear all the settings. Adding a Channel 1. Search for or set a frequency. For details, see "Searching for a Channel" on P15, "Setting a Frequency" on P14. 2. Press (Options) and select Save Channel. 3. Select a channel in the channel list and press (OK). 4. If you change the frequency of the selected channel, the phone prompts "Replace existing channel?" Press (Yes) to replace. Press (No) to re-select. Deleting a Channel 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio.
15 2. Press (Options) and select Delete Channel. 3. In the channel list, press and select a non-empty channel. 4. Press (Delete) to delete the selected channel. 5. Press (Yes) to delete; press (No) to cancel. Searching for a Channel Auto Tuning 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio. 2. Press (Options) and select Auto Tuning. 3. The phone searches for all available channels automatically and save them.  Notes: Your phone can save up to 20 channels. When 20 channels are found, the phone stops searching automatically. Manual Tuning 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio. 2. Press (Options) and select Manual Tuning. 3. The phone searches for an available channel automatically. 4. Press to switch a channel. 5. Press (Set) to set the found channel as the current channel for playing; press (Back) to stop tuning and return to the broadcasting interface. Inching Tuning 1. In the standby mode, press (Menu) and select FM Radio. 2. Press (Options) and select Inching Tuning. 3. Press and the phone searches a band of 0.1 MHz for available channels. The total frequency band for radio is from 87.5 MHz to 108.0 MHz. 4. Press (Set) to set the found channel as the current channel for playing; press (Back) to stop tuning and return to the broadcasting interface.
16 8 Alarm Clock If the phone is on and the alarm clock is activated, the phone rings, vibrates and/or vibrates at the preset time. You can set five alarm clocks at most. Activating the Alarm Clock 1. Press (Menu) and select Fun & Utility > Alarm. 2. Press to select an alarm clock. 3. Select Alarm On to activate the alarm clock. 4. Set the time, and press (OK). 5. Select the alerting mode: z If you select Once, the alarm clock alerts once. z If you select Everyday, the alarm clock alerts once a day. z If you select Custom, the alarm clock alerts at a specified time.  Note: z When the alarm clock alerts, press any key except (Snooze) to stop it. Alternatively, press (Snooze) to snooze it for five minutes, after which the alarm alerts again. z If nothing is done to the alarm clock when it alerts, it stops temporarily and alerts again 5 minutes later. It alerts for five times before it stops. Deactivating the Alarm Clock 1. Press (Menu) and select Fun & Utility > Alarm. 2. Press to select an alarm clock. 3. Select Alarm Off to deactivate the alarm clock.
17 9 Security Enabling/Disabling the Phone Lock 1. Press (Menu) and select Settings > Security > Phone Lock. 2. Enter the correct phone lock code and press (OK). 3. Select On/Off to enable/disable the phone lock. Changing the Phone Lock Code The default phone lock code is “000000”, you can change it into any numeric string of 4 to 8 digits. 1. Press (Menu) and select Settings > Security > Phone Lock. 2. Enter the correct phone lock code and press (OK). 3. Select Change Code. 4. Enter a new phone lock code and press (OK). 5. Re-enter the new phone lock code and press (OK). Enabling/Disabling the PIN Lock PIN protects your UIM card from unauthorized use. You can use the personal unlocking key (PUK) to unlock PIN. PIN and PUK are delivered with UIM card.  Note: For details of PIN and PUK, consult your service provider. To set the PIN lock, do as follows. 1. Press (Menu) and select Settings > Security > PIN Lock. 2. Enter the correct PIN and press (OK). 3. Select On/Off to enable/disable PIN lock. Changing the PIN Code If your PIN is locked, you can change your PIN by entering the correct PUK. 1. Enter the correct PUK code and press (OK). 2. Enter a new PIN and press (OK). 3. Re-enter the PIN and press (OK).
18 10 Menu Commands Call History Missed Calls Received Calls Dialed Calls View, save and delete call records (up to 20), or send messages to the corresponding numbers. Call Duration View the duration of the recent calls, or clear the call counter. Delete All Delete all the missed calls, answered calls, dialed calls, or call memos. Phone Book Search Find a contact from the phonebook. Add New Add new contacts to the phonebook. Each contact may have three numbers. The phone memory can save up to 500 contacts, while the capacity of the UIM card varies. Groups View or rename a group; delete the members of a group; add members to a group; set the group ring. Speed Dial Set the speed dial key. Then, you can press and hold only one number key to make a call in the standby mode.
19 Copy All If a UIM card is available, you can copy all contacts from the phone memory to the UIM card or from the UIM card to the phone memory. Delete All Delete all the records in the phone book. If the UIM is available, you can choose to delete all contacts saved in the Phone or UIM Card. My Phone No. Your phone number. Memory Info If a UIM card is available, set the memory in use (either the Phone or the UIM Card). Check the remaining and total space in the phone and the UIM card. Profiles General Meeting Silent Outdoor Headset Carkit Set the alerting mode and other sound/vibration-related features. The General, Outdoor, Headset, and Carkit profiles contain settings for the Volume, Alert Type, Incoming Call, Alarm Clock, SMS Alert, Key Tone, and Power On/Off Tone. The Headset profile also contains the setting for Headset Auto Answer. Gallery Pictures Store pictures downloaded from network. Musics Store music files downloaded from network.
20 Others Store files downloaded from the network. Sys Info View the information of your phone space. Messages Write Message Write and send a message. A message can contain up to 160 English letters. Inbox Store the received messages and delivery ack. You can view, reply to, delete, forward messages in the inbox. You can save phone numbers of message senders, or make a call from the numbers. Outbox When you send a message, if you choose Send&Save and the message is sent successfully, the message is saved to the outbox. If the Auto Save function is enabled, the message is saved to the outbox after it is sent successfully. You can delete, forward or re-send messages in the outbox. Draft When you send a message, if you choose Send&Save and the message is sent unsuccessfully, the message is saved to the draft. If you choose Save after writing a message, the message is saved to the draft. If the Auto Save function is enabled and the message is not sent successfully, it is saved to the draft. You can edit, send or delete the messages in the draft.
21 Voice Mail Receive voice mails. You can set the Voice Mail Number, Call Voice Mail Center, and Clear Voice Mail Notification. Templates Edit up to 10 predefined phrases. Messages Setting Group Settings Set up to 10 SMS groups, each of which can contain up to 10 contacts. Auto Save If enabled, messages sent successfully are saved to the outbox, and messages sent unsuccessfully are saved to the draft. Auto Delete If enabled, the earliest messages are automatically deleted to spare room for new messages. If disabled, the phone cannot receive new messages if the memory is full. Priority Set the priority of messages sent from the SMS center. From the lowest to the highest, the priorities are Normal, Urgent, and Emergency. The message priority function is network dependent. Delivery Ack Require a message delivery report from the short message service center (SMSC). Memory In Use Set the memory in use (either the phone or the UIM card).
22 Messages Setting Memory Status View the status of memory for messages (both the memory in use and the total memory). The phone can save up to 100 messages and the capacity of the UIM card varies. Delete All Delete messages in each SMS box. Game TOYGOLF Game Provide games for entertainment. For details, see Help in your phone. XKID Game Games for entertainment. For details, see Help in your phone. Fun & Utility Alarm If the phone is on and the alarm clock is activated, the phone rings, vibrates and/or vibrates at the preset time. Scheduler Store your appointments (up to 20), so that your phone reminds you at the specified time. Calculator Calculate arithmetic expressions. The calculator supports fractional arithmetic. You can press to enter the decimal point. You can select navigation key to choose operators such as add, subtract, multiply and divide. Stopwatch Use the stopwatch function.
23 World Clock View the current time of the local area and other major cities/areas around the world. FM Radio See "FM Radio" on P13. Settings Display Backlight Set the backlight of the LCD and the keypad. Contrast Set the LCD contrast by pressing the navigation keys. Time Format Set the time format to 12-hour clock or 24-hour clock. Data Format Set the date format to yyyy-mm-dd, dd-mm-yyyy or mm-dd-yyyy. Wallpaper Set a picture in the phone as the wallpaper. Banner Enable or disable the banner. If you choose On, you can edit the banner. Idle Time Display or hide time on the idle screen. If you select On, the current time is displayed on the idle screen.
24 Display Idle Date Display or hide date on the idle screen. If you select On, the current date is displayed on the idle screen. Screen Saver Enable or disable the screen saver function. This function can reduce the power consumption of the phone and protect the screen. If you select On and the phone is no operation within 30 seconds in any mode, the saver program will be enabled. The program will display the current time on the screen. You can press any key to quit the saver program. Call Settings Call Waiting Consult your service provider for more information about this function. Call Forwarding Forward all your incoming calls to another number or a voice mail connection. Any-key Answer Answer an incoming call by pressing any key except and . Minute Alert If activated, notify you of the call duration by giving an alert ten seconds before the end of each minute. Call Timer Display the duration of the current call.
25 Phone Settings Language Select the language, including English. Keyguard Enable or disable the Keyguard function. Version View the software version. Security Restrict All Calls If enabled, restrict all outgoing calls. Phone Lock If enabled, protect the phone from unauthorized use. You can change the default phone lock code (000000) into any numeric string of 4 to 8 digits. PIN Lock If enabled, protect your UIM card from unauthorized use. You can also change the PIN Lock code. Restore Factory Settings Restore the phone to the factory settings.
26 11 Warnings and Precautions Electronic Device Turn off your phone near high-precision electronic devices. The phone may affect the performance of these devices. Such devices include hearing aids, pacemakers, fire alarm systems, automatic gates, and other automatic-control devices. If you are using an electronic medical device, consult the device manufacturer to confirm whether the radio wave affects the operation of this device. Hospital Pay attention to the following points in hospitals or health care facilities: z Do not take your phone into the operating room (OR), intensive care unit (ICU), or coronary care unit (CCU). z Do not use your phone at places for medical treatment where phone use is prohibited. z When using your phone near someone who is suffering from a heart disease, turn down the ring tone volume or vibration properly so that it does not affect the person. Area with Inflammables and Explosives In any area with inflammables and explosives, turn off your phone and do not take out, install or charge the battery to avoid explosion and fire. Areas with inflammables and explosives include, but are not limited to: z Gas station z Area for storing fuels (such as the bunk under the deck of a ship) z Device/Vehicle for transporting and storing fuels or chemical products z Area with chemical substances and particles (such as: granule, dust, metal powder) in the air z Area with the sign of "Explosives" z Area with the sign of "Turn off bi-direction wireless equipment" z Area where it is generally suggested to stop the engine or a vehicle Traffic Safety z Please observe local laws and regulations on phone use. Do not use your phone while driving to avoid traffic accident. z Secure the phone on its holder. Do not place the phone on the seat or other places where it can get loose in a sudden stop or collision. z Use the phone after the vehicle stops at a safe place.
27 z If your phone supports the hands-free function, or the phone can be used with earphones, or there is any vehicle-mounted equipment with hands-free function, use them in emergency. z Do not place the phone over the air bag or in the air bag outspread area. Otherwise, the phone may hurt you owing to the strong force when the air bag inflates. z Observe the rules and regulations of airline companies. When boarding or approaching a plane, turn off the phone and take out the battery. In areas where phone use is prohibited, turn off the phone. Otherwise, the radio signal of the phone may disturb the plane control signals. Turn off your phone before boarding an aircraft. Storage Environment z Do not place magnetic storage media such as magnetic cards and floppy disks near the phone. Radiation from the phone may erase the information stored on them. z Do not put your phone, battery, or other accessories in containers with strong magnetic field, such as an induction cooker and a microwave oven. Otherwise, circuit failure, fire, or explosion may occur. z Do not leave your phone, battery, or charger in a very hot or cold place. Otherwise, malfunction of the products, fire, or explosion may occur. z Do not place sharp metal objects such as pins near the earpiece. 31 Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is the unit of measurement for the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone. The SAR value is determined at the highest certified power level in laboratory conditions, but the actual SAR level of the mobile phone while operating can be well below the value. This is because the mobile phone is designed to use the minimum power required to reach the network. All models of Huawei’s mobile phone are designed to meet radio frequency exposure guidelines. Before a phone model is available for sale to the public, it must be tested and certified to the FCC that it does not exceed the limit established by the government-adopted requirement for safe exposure.
