SAFETY INFORMATION Transmit and Receive Procedure Your two-way radio contains a transmitter and a receiver. To control your exposure and ensure compliance with the general population/uncontrolled environment exposure limits, do not transmit more than 50% of the time. Transmitting 50% of the time, or less, is important because the radio generates measurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting (in terms of measuring standards compliance). Antenna Care Use only the supplied or an approved replacement antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the radio and may violate FCC regulations. Two-way Radio Operation When using your radio as a traditional two-way radio, hold the radio in a vertical position with the mircrophone 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) away from the lips. Body-Worn Operation To maintain compliance with FCC/Health Canada RF exposure guidelines, if you wear a radio on your body when transmitting, always place the radio in a Motorola-supplied or approved clip, holder, holster, case, or body harness for this product. Use of non-Motorola-approved accessories may exceed FCC/Health Canada RF exposure guidelines. If you do not use one of the Motorola-supplied or approved body-worn accessories, and are not using the radio held in the normal use position, ensure the radio and its antenna are at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from your body when transmitting. FCC Licensing Information Your radio operates on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies (from channel 1 to channel 7 and from channel 15 to channel 22) and is subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC requires thatall operators using GMRS frequencies obtain a radio license before operating their equipment. To obtain the FCC forms, please request Form 605 and 159, which includes all forms and instructions. YOUR NEW RADIO The two-way radios operate on FRS/GMRS 462/467 frequencies, and can be used in USA & Canada where the frequencies are authorized, subject to applicable regulations. Turning Your Radio On And Off Turn Volume button clockwise to turn your radio on. The radio chirps and the display will show all feature icons that your radio has available for a brief period. The display will show the channel 1 - 22 and interference eliminator code 0 - 38. Turn volume button anticlockwise to turn your radio off. Monitor Function It is good radio etiquette to monitor the channel for activity before you transmit, to ensure that you do not interrupt other users already on the channel. Press and hold "Mon" to check for channel activity. If you hear static, the channel is clear for use. The Battery Meter The battery meter located in the display indicates how much battery power you have remaining., to protect the rechargeable battery. When the battery meter has one segment left, the radio chirps after releasing “PTT” and every 10 minutes. TALKING AND LISTENING Read this manual carefully before use. Your radio has 22 channels. If you are in a group and you wish to talk to each other, all radios must be set to the same channel and interference eliminator code (CTCSS). If you experience interference and need to change channel, ensure that you change the channel and code of all radios in your group. • For maximum clarity, hold radio 5 to 7 centimeters from mouth. • Press and hold “PTT” and speak into the microphone. LED indicator light glows continuously when transmitting. • To receive messages, release “PTT”. Volume When power up, Press “+” or “-“ button to adjust your volume to a comfortable listening level. Monitor Pressing and holding “MON” button allows you to monitor your channel for activity. Led The Radio have LED button. You can press this button to turn on LED for 5 Seconds.. Channel • Press “MENU” button The channel number will begin to flash. • Use “+” or “-“ button to change channel. • Press “PTT” button to set new channel. Interference Eliminator Code Interference eliminator codes help minimize interference by providing you with a choice of code combinations. • Press “MENU: button until the code number begins to flash. • Use “+” or “-“ button to change the code. • Press “PTT” to set new code. You can specify a different code for each channel. • To set a channel and code combination, press “MENU: button and then press “+” or “-“ button to select the channel. • Press “MENU” button again and then press “+” or “- “ to select a code. • Press “PTT” to exit the menu and to save the channel and code combination. To set another channel and code combination, repeat these steps. Time-out Timer The Time-out Timer feature helps extend battery life by preventing accidental transmission. The radio will emit a continuous warning tone after “PTT” button is pressed for 60 continuous seconds and will stop transmitting. Keypad Lock The keypad lock disables the “MENU” , “+” and “-“ buttons. It also disables the scan function, but allows you to use the “MON” button to monitor the channel. Press and hold the “MENU” button for three seconds to lock or unlock the keypad. When the radio is locked lock icon will show in the display. Scan By scanning, you can monitor channels and codes for transmissions and lock in on the one that interests you. More importantly, you can find someone in your group who has accidentally changed channels and is talking during your scan. • To start scanning, briefly press and release the “MON” button. • If you activate scan while your code is set to 0, then the radio will check for any activity on each channel, regardless of the code in use on that channel. • If you activate scan while the code is set on 1 to 38, then the radio will check for any activity on each channel, except the code 0 in use on that channel. • While the radio is scanning, Scan Icon will display and the radio will scroll through the channels. • When activity is detected on a channel, the radio will stop scanning and you will hear whatever transmissions are detected. The radio’s display will show the channel and code on which activity was detected.
• If you want to respond to the transmission, press “PTT” button within 5 seconds and you can respond. • The radio will resume scanning after 5 seconds of inactivity on the channel. • To stop scanning, briefly press and release “MON” button. Scan Advance If scan stops on a channel that you don’t want to listen to, briefly press “+” or “-“ button to resume scanning for the next active channel. Nuisance Delete If scan continuously stops on an undesired channel, press and hold ”+” or “-“ button for least 3 seconds, then release. This will temporarily remove the undesired channel from the scan list. To restore the channel to the scan list, turn the radio off and then on. You cannot remove your home channel from the scan list (your home channel is the channel your radio was set to when you activated scan). Hands Free Use (VOX) VOX allows you to transmit "handsfree" by talking while using VOX accessories connected to the radio. Note: When using audio accessories with your radio, turn your radio off before you place the accessory on your head or in your ear. How To Use The VOX Feature • Turn off your radio. • Open the accessory cover and insert the audio accessory into the accessory jack. • Switch on your radio. The "VOX" icon will appear in the display to indicate that the VOX feature is active. • To transmit, speak into the accessory microphone. To receive, stop talking. • Pressing “PTT” button or removing audio accessory will disable VOX operation. How To Use The IVOX Feature • Turn off your radio. • Turn on your radio with “PTT” button pressed, The "VOX" icon will appear in the display to indicate that the IVOX feature is active. • To transmit, speak into the radio microphone. To receive, stop talking. • Pressing “PTT “ for transmit will disable IVOX operation. • When power up with IVOX active, Pressing “PTT “ for transmit will disable IVOX operation. After that, you can press “PTT” button for a very short time to active IVOX again. The “ VOX” Icon will display again. Note: There is a short delay after you start talking, before the radio transmits. Setting Sensitivity Levels Adjusting your radio’s VOX and/or microphone sensitivity level helps to minimize the possibility of unintended noises triggering a transmission, or enhances the ability to pick up quiet voices. If an accessory is fitted to your radio these instructions will help you to adjust the VOX sensitivity and if no accessory is fitted you will adjust the Microphone sensitivity. If IVOX is active , you will adjust the IVOX sensitivity level. • Press “MENU” until "VOX" and a flashing number appear. If IVOX active. In code position display “I”, otherwise you will select VOX or microphone sensitivity level. • Select sensitivity level of 1, 2 or 3 by using “+” or “-“. 1 - If you speak loudly, or are in a noisy environment. 2 - Suitable for most applications. 3 - If you speak softly, or are in a quiet environment. Note: When you connect a VOX accessory, the radio will automatically be set to the last chosen VOX sensitivity level. If IVOX is active, the radio will automatically select IVOX level. Vibrate (For selected models only) Some radio can be set to vibrate when it receives the first incoming transmission . vibrate is then suspended until 30 seconds after channel activity has finished. • press “MENU” until the vibration icon shows in the LCD • Set to “Y” to enable and “-“ to disable the vibrate feature ALERTS Channel Busy Indicator The red LED will flash twice per second to indicate that the channel is in use. Call Tone Press “CALL” button to transmit your call tone, alerting users on the same channel and code that you are about to talk. Your radio has 10 call tones (depend on model) to choose from. Setting the call tone to 0 disables. To Set the Call Tone • With the radio on, press “MENU” button until "CA" appears in the display. • Current call tone setting will begin to flash. • Press “+” or “-” to change and hear call tones while the setting number is flashing. • Press “PTT” to set new call tone. Roger Beep (Talk Confirmation Tone) When you turn on this feature, your two-way radio transmits a unique tone when you finish transmitting. It’s like saying 'Roger' or 'Over', and lets others know you’ve finished talking. • To enable or disable the roger beep, press and hold “+” button as you turn your radio on.
• When the roger beep is enabled Icon will show in the display. • When you release the “PTT” button you will hear the roger beep. Stop Watch This radio have a additional function that is Stop watch. To Start the stop watch • With the radio on, press “MENU” button until "00" “00” appears in the display. • Press.”+” stop watch will start running . • When stop watch is running, pressing “+” will change it to pause state, and displays the time that has passed, but the stop watch doesn’t stop working, it still runs in the background. In pause state, if “+” is pressed again, the stop watch will go on running based on the time passed from the start of the stop watch, rather than the time that displays in the pause state. Only in pause state and pressing “-‘ will reset the stop watch. • in stop watch running, first 30 seconds , msec and seconds is in the display. After 30 seconds , seconds and minutes is in the display. • in stop watch running or pause state. Press “PTT” or “ CALL” key will quit stop watch and enter transmitting state. press monitor key will quit stop watch and enter monitor state. Press “MENU” button will quit to standby state. • in stop watch running or pause state, the radio do not check VOX/IVOX. Auto power off The Radio have a additional function auto power off. How To Use The auto power off Feature • Press “Menu” button until display “P “ in LCD channel position.. • Press “+” or “-“ you can select 0 ,30. 60 or 90 minute. If you select 0. then auto power feature is disable. After you select other timer. When the auto power off time out, the radio shall turn off automated.. • Pressing any button or when radio received a valid signal . the auto power off timer will reset to setting value.
