2Using a TelephoneTo the Iridium system, you can connect a PBX switchboard or aPSTN telephone. When using a telephone, many of the system’smore advanced features, like e.g. the security lock function, are notaccessible.Telephone call syntaxFor external calls, entering a telephone number on a PSTNtelephone follows the syntax of this example:1. Lift the phone and listen for the tone signalling:Busy tone: Hang up and try again later.Ready tone: The telephone is ready for calling.2. To confirm you want to make the call, press: #4. Wait for your call to be answered.Answering a Callis done exactly as if it was an ordinary telephone call: Pick up thephone and answer the call.
3Handset Simple OperationTo the Iridium system you can connect up to five handsets. A handset can be in one of two states: active or disabled.Handset StatesIn each of the two states, the handset’s normal display and signallingcan be described as follows:Disabled State:• The display is cleared and the light is off.• The indicator lamp on/off is flashing briefly every 5 seconds.Active State:• In the active state, the user can choose the information shownon the display. An example:• The indicator lamp on/off is on.Handset on/offTo turn the handset on/off:1. Press and hold the on/off button.2. Wait until you hear the continuous tone signalling or see that theindicator lamps on/off, call and in use are turned on simultane-ously.3. Release the on/off button.Call FunctionsSpeaker, Earpiece and MicrophoneThe earpiece is always turned on. The speaker and microphone arealways in opposite states, i.e. if the speaker is on, the microphone isoff, and vice versa.You can toggle the speaker and microphone states bymeans of the speaker key. The speaker icon appears onthe display when the speaker is on, and disappears whenthe microphone is on.Hooking on/offBefore a call can be initiated, the handset must be hooked off. 5Answering a Call1. When the handset rings, remove it from the hook and communi-cate as on an ordinary telephone.2. Adjust the volume in the earpiece or loudspeaker by means of:3. When you want to stop communicating, or when you hear a busytone, hang up.Handset Advanced OperationThe system features a great number of special functions. For thoseof the functions that are likely to be used the most, there are specialbuttons or shifted functions in connection with the numeric keys. Thefunctions used less often can be found in the menu tree.Address BookThe address book offers the following facilities:• Up to 100 entries including names and numbers can be stored. Atelephone number may consist of up to 20 digits, and a namemay contain a maximum of 11 characters.• Any of the 100 stored telephone numbers can be used to initiatea call.• Each entry in the address book can be deleted.• New entries can be added to the address book as long as someof the 100 entries are free.• The name and/or number stored in every entry can be changed.• The stored entries can be searched alphabetically.Searching the Address BookWhen you need to find a stored entry, first open the address book bypressing:The display then shows a list beginnng with the first entry in theaddress book:To find previous/following entries, use:When you have reached the last entry, the address book begins fromnumber one again.>AndrewBrianClausDennis
