InstallationInstallationMounting and ConnectionsThe Ju n ction Box is held by two scre ws,pe rm i t t i n gmounting in the manner most convenient foryour installation.Mounting hardware is supplied for mounting theJunction Box.The mounting must be mechanicallys t rong and also provide a good elect ri cal co n n e ct i o nto the chassis of the vehicle.Proceed as follows tomount junction box:Mounting andConnections5CautionLeaving the 75 WX ST on afteryour car is turned off can drainyour car batte ry when co n n e cte dto a constant 12 volt source.When co n n e cted to an acce s s o ry12 volt source the unit will turnoff when vehicle is turned off.4After you have dete rmined the most co nve n i e ntlocation in your vehicle, hold the Cobra HH-75WX ST Junction Box in the exact locationdesired. If nothing will interfere with mountingit in the desired position,use the Junction Boxas a template to mark the location for themounting screws.Before drilling the holes,make sure nothing will interfere with theinstallation of the mounting screws.123Connect the antenna cable connector tothe antenna receptacle on the unit. InstallationInstallationThe alternator and ignition system in your vehiclemay limit your ability to receive low signal levels.Other noise interference can be the result of several different installation variables.Consultyour Cobra dealer or a 2-way radio technician tohelp locate and correct the source of severe noiseinterference.CB AntennaFor the most reliableoperation and maximumrange, Cobra recom-mends using a verticallypolarized, quarter wavelength whip antenna(illustration A).Shorter,loaded-typewhips are adequate whenmaximum range is notrequired (illustration B) Ignition Noise InterferenceExternal Speaker InstallationCB AntennaInstallation ExternalSpeakerInstallation9NoteMobile installations (cars,trucks,boats,etc) should bemade only with a non-direc-tional antenna system.A standard antenna connector (Type SO-239) is provided onthe Connector Box for easy con-nection to a standard PL-259cable termination.Cobra antenna models arerecommended;see your local CB dealer or order directlyfrom Cobra.See order form on page 39.For maximum efficiency in boatinstallations,a ground plate isrequired,unless the vessel has asteel hull. OperationOperation1514Setting theSquelchGate openGate closedSetting theSquelchIf you turn the squelch control fully counter-clockwise,it lowers the “squelch gate”so lowthat everything gets through - noise,weaksignals and strong signals.To set the “squelch gate”to the DSS-DesiredSquelch Setting, turn the squelch controlcounterclockwise until you hear noise.Thenturn the squelch control back clockwise justuntil the noise stops. Now only strong signalsget through.The Desired Squelch Setting, (DSS) only allowsactual transmissions to come through. Thiseffectively blocks out unwanted noise.Setting Squelch 65Setting Squelch Turn CB on by turning the volume control clockwise.
