Important safety information12Installation and Getting Started GuideSPECIFIC ABSORPTION RATE DATATHIS MODEL WIRELESS HANDHELD MEETS GOVERNMENTREQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES.Your wireless handheld is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed andmanufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency(RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the U.S.Government and Industry Canada of the Canadian Government (IC). These limitsare part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energyfor the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that weredeveloped by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thoroughevaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margindesigned to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless mobile handhelds employs a unit ofmeasurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set bythe FCC/IC is 1.6W/kg.* Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operatingpositions specified by the FCC/IC with the handheld transmitting at its highestcertified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR isdetermined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of thehandheld while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is becausethe handheld is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only thepower required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wirelessbase station antenna, the lower the power output. Before a wireless handheld model is available for sale to the public, it must betested and certified to the FCC/IC that it does not exceed the limit established bythe government-adopted requirement for safe exposure. The tests are performed inpositions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn on the body) as required by theFCC/IC for each model. The highest SAR value for this model handheld whentested for use at the ear is 1.28 W/kg and when worn on the body, as described inthis user guide, is 0.32 W/kg. (Body-worn measurements differ among wirelesshandheld and phone models, depending upon available accessories and FCC/ICrequirements). While there may be differences between the SAR levels of variouswireless devices and at various positions, they all meet the governmentrequirement for safe exposure. The FCC has granted an Equipment Authorization for this model handheld with allreported SAR levels evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF emissionguidelines. SAR information on this model handheld is on file with the FCC and

The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safety to giveadditional protection for the public and to account for any variations inmeasurements.ANTENNA CAREUse only the supplied integral antenna. Unauthorized antenna, modifications, orattachments could damage the handheld and may violate FCC regulations.AIRCRAFTFederal Aviation Administration (FAA)/FCC regulations prohibit using the radioof your handheld while in the air.
